A Mary Sue is a female fanfic character not in the original work, usually an idealized representative of the other, who can do no wrong, is beautiful, understanding, etc. Usually she either saves the day or the hero falls for her. Theoretically, a Mary Sue can be well done, but I’ve never seen any. They are just plain wrong!

I haven’t seen the fic that the OP was referring to, but as long as the boys weren’t actually boning each other, what’s the problem? Teenagers will kiss each other, it’s perfectly natural. Oh, and from friends who have been to British boarding schools, I know that boy/boy sex is normal and not even considered particularly gay.
Some of the best fanfic out there is slash. The same-gender pairing automtically sets up some dramatic tension that is absent in straight pairings. The incest stuff, however, is icky.
