Well, I for one do have violently regurgitative responses to the above. Along with finding incest WRONG and weird.
But as to the OP, yeah, I’ve encountered HP slash fanfic. Not having read the books themselves I don’t know whether the fics are in character or not; however, the majority of LOTR slash fics I’ve read are not. Tolkien’s characters were never this sex-obsessed.

And I find myself having to agree with the folks that the creepiness of HP slash comes pretty much exclusively from the fact that the characters are 13 in the latest book. (IE, I’d react to Harry/Hermione stuff the same way as Harry/Ron stuff.)
