Does anyone else remember Alexander the Grape? It was a sour grape-flavored hard candy, somewhat similar to Lemonheads. Apparently, the name has been changed to “Grapeheads”, and they’re still made, but I just haven’t seen them in years. I used to eat a pack a day in high school.
I worked in Fort Lauderdale - and they stocked them in our candy machine for a while - probably because the Miami area had the heavy Hispanic population. Tried them a couple times - never had Dulce de Leche before, so I don’t know how much they tasted like the original. Didn’t make a huge impression on me. And I guess not many others either - Hasta La Vista to Dulce de Leche M&Ms
Oh - and Charleston Chews should be frozen and cracked sharply against a table to break into pieces. Strawberry is the best.

That’s the candy bar I remember freezing and smacking against the table! I was trying to think of it earlier, and could not come up with it at all. I remember that strawberry was good, but I don’t remember the other flavors at all, so I can’t say whether I liked one of them better.
I don’t remember that they had a brand name, but I was a sucker for those marshmallow-filled mini ice cream cones. They were a sort of proto-marshmallow Peep, if I recall, as the marshmallow part was coated with sugar. Yum!
Now and Laters and Laffy Taffy. Yum! I ordered a bunch of this stuff from oldtimecandy.com and sent it to my cousin (we were both candy fiends when we were younger). They even had the bubblegum cigarettes.

When I was in high school, my mom and I lived next door to some folks who built a brand new house on their little lot. They actually painted it carnival peanut orange. I swear to Og. The entire thing. I still have nightmares.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a Giant Sweet Tart for the first time in over ten years. The regular kind, not the chewy version. Ugh, it was vile.
I used to get those things at the movie theater snack bar all the time. How my tastebuds survived remains a mystery.
I haven’t had a Ring Pop in a long time. I know they’re still around, but I just haven’t bought one.
Same goes for Big League Chew. I guess it’s more acceptable than candy cigarettes, because fewer baseball players are chewing tobacco during games.
Well, I’ve never actually had the… coconut brittle or whatever it is, because it looks like Nuclear Night in the vomit bucket at the coconut bar. What is it, really? How does it taste? Do you know any other people who eat it (do you get together and talk about your perversion?)

They sound similar to Brach’s Neapolitan Coconuts, which aren’t that bad. OTOH, if you’re referring to a multicolor version of coconut haystacks, I have had the plain ones.
My team and I were traveling to a regatta and stopped at a truck stop that had Bit-O-Honey (I only seem to see this at truckstops) and got on the topic of "truckstop"candy. (BTW, my crew understands my candy fetish. At the last regatta, after I successfully weighed in as a “lightweight”, they got me not one, but TWO bags of Brachs Harvest mix. Mmmmmm, candy corn and mellow creme pumpkins.)
We are talking about these, right? The coconut flag things? They taste pretty much like you’d expect. Chewy, sweetened coconut. Kinda like a Mounds bar without the chocolate. If you’re one of them weird coconut loathers, you’d hate them…
Pixie Stix- I have one and I cannot. stop. And then I’m wired from the sugar and talk at a million miles an hour for a while and then come down and look for more. Pixie Stix addiction is a sad and lonely thing.
Licorice whips- the really long ones that last all day and end up killing your jaws from overwork. Loved those. Haven’t had one in ages.
Guess I was right the first time if that’s them. I’ve never had one but they don’t seem all that different from Brach’s.
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly! If anyone ever found them for me I would be their slave…well, until the sugar high wore off.
Looks like I will have to be my own slave. Tham may get confusing but I shall be sucking on candy at the time so I shall survive.
