Do Asian countries have a large market for ‘ethnic’ porn? Which races are most commonly featured there?? Are non-Asians portrayed with the same idiotic stereotypes as the ethnic porn in the U.S.???

First of all, I’d say that everyone in a (mainstream) porn film is a stereotype. I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference between Asian actors/actresses and Caucasian ones in this regard.
To adress your question, I think it’s safe to say that the amount of porn sold in Asia to Asians is minute compared to the amount sold to North Americans and Europeans, whether in their own nations or elsewhere. The Asian market is nowhere near the size of the American and European ones, and so there’s little room for “specialist” type porn like specifically ethnic porn. Most of the allegedly Asian porn is marketed as “sick Japanese porn” and the like to attract American and European customers, not because it is actually meant for Japanese marketing.

I must politely disagree. I live in a medium-sized city just south of Osaka, and within a 15 minute’s bike ride from my apartment are 2 porn theater’s, and 3 adult video stores. The size of the adult video section at the mainstream rental store I go to is comparable to the size of one in an American store. The number of pornographic magazines readily available at convenience stores and book stores dwarf what I saw in the US.
To get back to the OP. The only ‘ethnic’ porn that I am aware of features either white women with Japanese men or (and this is a little unexpected) black men with Japanese women. I’ve never actually watched either kind of video, so I can’t comment on stereotypes.
It appears I was wrong. Like I said, it was just one guy’s opinion. and you’re obviously more reliable than I in this matter.

A lot of the stuff I saw in Hong Kong had all asian actors. I didn’t see a wide variety of caucasian or black actors/actresses. Even many of the big name magazines in the US had Asia equivelents with Asian Playboy, Asian Penthouse where all the participants were from that region.

I have seen a lot of japanese porn. In case you are wondering about my habbits, I am female and I am studying human sexuality in a sociological and anthrological sense, so I watch porn as a way to study views of sexuality in other cultures.
Moving on, I don’t recall seeing much “ethnic” porn. I do know that in regular japanese tv/movies, you do often see stereotypes, although it is considerably less than it was before. I can think of a recent popular anime “gravitation” which had K, an american who was big, beefy and gun-happy.
Also, if a japanese (probably Korean too) girl starts dating a black or white men, all the women joke that she “likes big dicks.” There are a group of school-girls called the kogals(?) who specifically like to date white/black men (particularly americans) as they are not only thought to be well-endowed, but rich.
I have noted some differences between american porn and japanese porn in general. For example, in japanese porn, there is often silence or very light music. In the gay porn I have seen, neither parties often talk or make any noise. As for straight porn, often the male partner yaps and doesn’t shut up and the girl makes very little noise.
The japanese have a huge “underground” porn culture, much more so than in america. You also can find a lot more… unusual porn and such in japan than here. For example, bukkake. ^^;;
But I have drifted off. Based on what I have seen, “ethnic” porn is not as common in japan as it is here, and as there really is no plot in most japanese porn, I have not seen much stereotypes, but I image if there was a plot, the foreigner would be stereotyped.

It appears that there is a large number of white men who are sexually interested in Asian women, but a dearth of Asian men who are sexually interested in white women. This is apparent not only in porn but in real life-

As of 1980, 71.3% of all Asian/white married couples were white men with Asian wives. This is a far cry from the 50/50 ratio which would occur if it were all just a matter of chance.

As a white woman with an asian “man” and knowing a lot of white females who are attracted to asian men, I can offer some possible reasons why this is so. But first I am going to put a little disclaimer. Lumping all asians together is stupid, as there are many different cultures and races. I am writing from a mostly japanese/korean perspective, so do not consider my words to work for other nationalities.
Asian men ARE attracted to white women. If you watch japanese/korean music videos, you will note that the “girl” in the video is almost always white. I have even see more black girls than asian girls in music videos by male artists, particularly rock as opposed to pop.
I have been hit on several times by asian men as have a lot of my white friends. However, while most asian men want to bed and date us, not as many want to marry us.
Why? Asians have different ideas about the roles of males and females. Although it is changing as the younger generation is becoming more “americanized”, there are a lot of things that still hold true. Most asian parents want their sons to marry asian daughters. My fiancé’s parents have always told him that a japanese wife is the best kind of wife and are disappointed that I am white. They tolerate me only because they want children and know that they aren’t going to get any unless it is from me. He has said that his late grandmother would not have approved of me.
A wife is supposed to fulfill certain duties and have certain… attributes. White woman treat relationships different than asian women (particularly those directly from asia rather than those born here) and often do or say things that are culturally offensive to some asians.
As for asian women dating white men… a lot of the men have money, clout and are able to provide for their wives. While I am sure the girl’s parents would prefer her to marry someone of her own race, as long as the man is able to provide for her and has a good, steady job, they support their marriage.
Also, sons are more important to the family than women. Lineage is still important (my fiancé’s parents want a grandson so bad they are offering a lot of money for it) in a lot of families and if their son (who carries the family name) marries a white woman, it dilutes the blood line and takes away from the family name. A woman takes the name of her husband and it doesn’t really matter if her blood line is diluted.
Well, this has become to long. There are other sociological and cultural factors to, but this should give you an idea, I hope.

Actually, I am more interested in reading books about various reactions to sexuality (mostly homosexuality) throughout the ages than watching most porn, which I find boring. Although, I must admit, some of the stuff the japanese do in porn…

Most of the porn here seems very “local”, but IANAP expert. Further to Ava’s point, a recent news report on the brothels in the red light district here showed the going rate for Russian women to be about double that for Mainland Chinese women. (IIRC, HK$350 for 30 mins with the latter, 45 mins if they were plain-looking! - about US$50.) Malaysians, for some reason, attracted a premium on the Mainland Chinese, though both are ethnic Chinese. Novelty value, presumably.
In Panthip Plaza in Bangkok, which is the local mecca for computers, software, DVDs and videos, the porn is a mixture of Thai, Chinese and American. Not sure who buys which. But people in Thailand would consider Chinese to be “different”, usually in a positive sense (beautiful white skin), and Japanese/Koreans are definitely considered ethnic. The American porn almost always featured women with fair skin and blonde hair. This is their (very generalized) standard of beauty, eg, fair = beautiful, dark = not as. Of course there are exceptions.
If I were gay, I would have to agree with you on the Asian men part… damn
