Yes - go to the Highlands. Glencoe is the loveliest place on earth, I swear! I’ve never been anywhere so beautiful - the only places that come close are the rest of the Highlands and Aberdeenshire. Give yourself at least two weeks. Try to see as much as you can.
Yep Scottish accents are all good …thats why I married one.
But my next choice is a Scouse accent mmmmmmmmmmmmm
Some people think I’m odd for this!
Someone can help me out here…Shirley Manson is Scottish, right? I really do NOT like her accent. Is there anyone else (female) who I may have heard that is a good representative? If she has a pretty standard one, I must say I don’t think I like it…it just sounds…rough. Not a good word, but I’m not sure I know exactly why it rubs me wrong. It’s just doesn’t sound feminine, IMO. Although, conversely, I can see why a Scottish accent would sound good on a man (if men are your thing.)

So is Irvine Welsh hardcore erotica for all you people? How do you feel about Groundskeeper Willy*?
*I know it’s not a proper Scottish accent. But some men quite enjoy silicon breasts.
Scouse … count me in !
and although I generally prefer men, a woman from Northern Ireland can melt my heart …
hell, I guess any accent on a sexy person is pretty sexy.
Dear Ivylass,
I have a potential solution to your problem. Check out this website. It’s a demo page from a Scottish Speech synthesis company in Edinburgh and they do a very nice Scottish accent which you can get to say anything!!
Oh my god…I think Ivylad has some competition…
I once worked with a lady from the Isle of Man. Her accent was… unforgettable. It was a sad day at work when she moved back to Man.
Oh, my God, no. Not sexy!! (Or should I say… dead sexy?) Scottish accents crack me up bigtime. I can’t help it. I thought they were totally funny long before Fat Bastard. My old boyfriend and I had this whole goofy music hall act thingie we used to do for each other on long car trips, all in exaggerated Scottish accents. Hilarious travelin’ fun!!
Head out to St. Andrews, NB sometime. There’s a resort there, and all the guys on staff wear kilts every day.
OK, guys! Now you know what makes them melt:This is where to learn how.
(Well, alright. It’s Irish. But that works well too.)
d_redgal also <ahem> enjoys a Scottish accent from me from time to time as well.
At my college we were the Highlanders, something about the surrounding landscape reminding folks of Scotland. Consequently, everything was Scottish-influenced, so it was four years of heaven, surrounded by men in kilts, and Scottish accents; in other words everything good and right about this world of ours. After graduation I was left high and dry until one of my cousins started playing the bagpipes and I got to go to his performances. I highly reccommend looking for your local Highland society (or equivalent) to admirers, everybody’s a dear and you can listen to as many lovely ruffly rrrrr’s as you like.
For Billy Connelly fans, check out Mrs. Brown, a good movie and a man in a kilt in just about every scene.

ooooooh my yes, I do love a Scottish accent. A Scottish accent in a kilt is even better. A close second would be a “Hugh Grant” public school accent…shiver.

Dopers w/SO’s with sexy accents… Do you still hear their accent? When I first met my husband, his lovely, soft Wexford accent could turn me to jelly. His accent is now inaudible to me except for certain words or phrases. Damn. I can still hear his siblings’ accents but not his. Does anybody have a theory for this?

Hell, as an American, I turn into a quivering pile of estrogen at any or all of the following: Irish, English (excepting Cockney), Scottish, Aussie, Italian, Slavic, occationally Spanish, and even the occational Southern American. (Georgia, not Alabama). I also find the Boston accent endearing.
That’s a lot of accents to turn into estrogen for. And I’m sure there are some I’m forgetting. Oy.
My father taught school in Scotland for a while and he said that Edinborough accents were pleasant and pretty, while Glaswegian (sp?) is harsh sounding and rough. He demonstrated by saying “Gie us a kiss” in both accents.
I think the only accent that wouldn’t particularly turn me on would be the accent that people have in the area where I live. If there’s nothing exotic about it, there’s nothing to be turned on by.
