What is it with Ovaltine commercials?

Why do Ovaltine commercials seem so creepy? Is it because they’re old or cheaply made? If this company can afford to advertise so much, how come they can’t afford to make decent commercials?

I have noticed this exact same thing, too! It sounds SO disingenous. “More Ovaltine, please!” The kids are SO saccharine, and such bad actors. I know it’s fake, their love for Ovaltine, but every commercial involves some fakeness. But other commercial actors sound more…well, normal, in their endorsement of the product. Even the Sunny D ones, even the diaper commercials–they’re more real than those Ovaltine zombies.

They’re creepy becaue Ovaltine is actually a hellish brew, concocting by fiery imps. In an effort to remove the immune systems of humans, the dark overlords of Global Evil commanded the creation of an evil drink in 1913. The recipie was stolen from a French beverageologist, who, fearing increasing German aggression, created a poison to sap the will of anyone who would attack France. On October 9th, 1913 agents of Evil broke into his lab however, and stole his research. Since then a quasi-Evil ad campaign, staffed mainly by former Children Of The Corn, has sprung up. The drink was a failure as a toxin however, since the research wasn’t completed when it was stolen. So instead of a will sapping, immune system destroying, sickly fluid of death, we have Ovaltine.

In conclusion, I have no idea.

Even more frighteningly, Ovaltine used to be marketed as “prophylactic against asbestosis” - in other words, they wanted you to believe that drinking Ovaltine would prevent getting cancer from asbestos exposure.

Sorry, no cite, but I have a photocopy of the advertisement around here somewhere from when I used to process legal claims and settlements for people with asbestosis and mesothelioma. You just have to believe me on this one.

I actually like Ovaltine a lot.

“More Ovaltine™, bitch!”

Now that would be a cool commercial.

:dubious:

Bwah ha ha!

No, no – it’s really good when you add some Hershey’s syrup.

I always see these awful commercials constantly late at night (when oxygen turns dirty…Sunday Night Sex show etc.) along with those female viagra commercials. Over and over…
