Maybe I’m missing something here (could be because I only caught the later years of the show), but isn’t the whole point of Cambot the fact that anything we see on the S.O.L. is through Cambot’s camera? In the opening credits sequences I’ve seen, they showed cambot in a mirror.
Anyway, where I’m going with this, is that if this is the case, Cambot would have to go into the theater, because otherwise, we wouldn’t see what goes on in the theater. I always thought that Cambot liked to sit in the back row and quietly watch the movie like a normal person would.
In the opening sequence during the Joel years, it’s shown that Joel makes the bots out of things on the ship that could’ve been useful to him, like the movie room remote control. At least, that’s what I got out of it. It seemed to me at the time that cambot was the one leading them into the movie room, and then monitered everything for us and TV’s Fred. I don’t think it was ever made made canonical, though. Or even thouroughly explained.
I think that’s where the line in the theme song becomes handy, “Just repeat to yourself it’s just a show, I should really just relax.” There was one episode where Gypsy spent a small amount of time in the theatre but she got bored and left. I’m not nerdy enough to recall the exact episode…I guess I could go look it up in the Amazing Collosal Episode Guide, but I’m on vacation. And, it wasn’t TV’s Fred…turn your crank to Frank : )
Guys if you are ‘sensitive’ about wisecracking out loud at a bad movie in theaters, let me warn you: do not go to a theater frequented by Black people. MST3king is a national pastime for us. Besides, you might find me in there going right along.

The Rhino intro was a bit odd…but I kept watching.
The show started. Got introduced to the characters and, to be quite honest, was wondering if I had made a mistake. (Talk about cheesy!)
Then the movie began…I have never laughed so hard in all my life!!!
My wife, Trinity, asked, “Is this all they do? Make comments?”
My response, “Yup.”
The movie was Mitchell, (My, my Mitchell!) and what a crappy movie! Perfect fodder for the trio!
My favorite line? (That I was able to remember.):
I’m gonna have to watch it again. This time with a pad and pencil to jot down the witty retorts.
Right up there with the baby oil is where he hauls the 6-pack of Schlitz into the bed with his big toe…AUGH!
My favorite ever MSTed movie? Hmm. It’s a tie between Rocketship X-M, Space Mutiny, and…PUMAMAN. My god, it’s like Greatest American Hero on crack, and the flight scenes are HYSTERICAL!
