What is on top of your computer monitor?

A beanbag moose and a Cartman (South Park of course) keychain. Now that I look at it, WAY to much dust.

I don’t have anything on top of my monitor. I have a laptop. But if I did have a “real” monitor I’d put all my beanie animals and toys from the back of my car’s window on it. These include a toy cootie (as in the MB board game) from Wendy’s, a beanie iguana, cat, and platypus/duck, a bobbing head leopard and a bobbing head tiger. I can guarantee that my hypothetical monitor would have a lot of dust, too.

On my monitor, left to right:

An unpainted pewter miniature of an Omega Class Destroyer, from the t.v. show Babylon 5.

A Raven totem carving made from deer antler.

A bottle of eye drops.

A packet of 7 sewing needles.

My little notepad listing ftp sites, passwords, gas milage, etc.

Nothing, except when my cat is sleeping up there.

In order from bottom to top:

[li]A 1998 calender.[/li][li]A stack of old papers from high school I haven’t thrown out yet.[/li][li]November-December 1996 issue of American Scientist, with a picture of an old skull on the cover.[/li][li]Two binders with high school stuff in it.[/li][li]Some old issues of my high school’s newspaper[/li][li]A case of computer disks.[/li][li]A manilla folder containing medical files[/li][li]Some pictures drawn for me by the little girl I tutor.[/li]
Ya know, I’m starting to think I should clean my room

This is at work:

  1. Three-eyed martian spinning top. The character is from the Toy Story movie, which I’ve never seen. I have a keychain of the same character on the rear-view of my truck.

  2. Catdog. Originally it had this grape-flavored jerky in it that was masquerading as bubble-gum.

  3. Souvenir can of Armadillo Roadkill. It’s actually potted meat, about the size of a can of Vienna Sausages.

  4. Plastic ladybug stuck to the front, souvenir from one of my boss’s trips. My boss always brings us back little tchotckes (sp?). She’s the best.

I have a 2in LCD clock with the logo for Mindset Computers imprinted on it. It’s ancient, must date back to 1985, I’ve changed the battery 5 times now. Nobody remembers Mindset except me.

I also have the speakers for my awesome Boston Acoustics Media Theater attached to the top sides of my monitor with double-sided foam tape. The speakers look like they were built for the monitor. Doublesided foam tape is your best computer accessory, you can stick anything together with it and it holds with an incredibly strong bond, but is removable. It makes everything stack together neatly instead of sliding all over your desk.

And that’s it, except for my phone which I usually stick on top of the monitor because there’s no room left on my desk.

A couple of BNC patch cables (75 Ohm for video; I do not use 10base2).

My hat, a duckcloth safari-style that does a nice job of keeping my shaven head from frying in the Oklahoma sun, something we’ve had far too much of lately. Since it has a 360 brim, it is far superior to a baseball cap for all around weather protection. It also does a great job of keeping my cat off of the monitor when I’m using the computer.

At work, nothing. We’re in the middle of renovations, I keep having to move desks  and somewhere in all the moves I lost my purple rubber octopus, and I am lost without him.

At home, a small laughing Buddha and a small “Author Snoopy” - he’s got a typewriter in front of him, with the words “It was a dark and stormy night” already on the paper.

On top of my monitor, you say? Well, There’s one of these things which always blocks my view.

At work, I have:
1 picture of Benvolio, the fattest cat (22 pounds!) when he was a kitten
1 Prozac clock, obtained from a drug rep.
1 picture of the ex SO, who is in the hospital as I write this
a stickie with the conversion from tablets to milligrams
a sticker that says “Igor”, the name of my slow-a$$ computer
a plastic figure of The Undertaker
stuck on the side: A Mellow Mushroom sticker

At home:
All 6 of the Star Wars toys from Taco Bell a few years ago
A sticker that says “Do not take this drug, you become pregnant” (it was a typo at work one day.)
A Micro-machine sized Yoda
a small stuffed penguin
Stuck on the side: 2 Pearl Jam stickers, a linux shark (as opposed to the Jesus Fish), and a TOOL sticker

Double all of the dust… I don’t think I’ve cleaned the dust off since I moved in March!!

I gotta ask: did it ever run slow but now keeps normal time?

On my monitor at work, nothing. It’s too tight a fit.

On my monitor at home, a picture of my and my hubby.

However, above the monitor at home is a shelf of family pictures. Around my cube at work are a million (seems like) stuffed animals and toys and pictures, etc. One of these days I’ll post a picture. (The one on the People Pages is about 3 years old and in a different cube.)

I used to have an Oscar the Grouch! It’s still somewhere around here…

All that’s on mine is dust.

Because I’m unemployed, I no longer have a computer at work, but my home computer has a brass miniature of Ganesha I bought at a sidewalk bazaar in Khajuraho, India.

I have a penguin (pronounced PENN-guee-ooeen) made out of that cool crayola foam clay stuff.

And a beanie camel.

I don’t know why.
