I’m not going to do the math, but it looks like the average age is closer to the very lower 40s. Assuming there is no more recent info.

In all seriousness, this is the wrong subforum for this (polls need to go in IMHO). We have done this one before. This board skews much older than most other general interest web sites. I would be extremely surprised if the average age was as low as 30. It was higher than that the last time we did this poll and I don’t think any of us have gotten any younger since then. However, the age range is quite varied. We have had posters that were consistent, valuable contributors from the young teens up to people in their 80’s and possibly even older.
I am almost 42 and have been a consistent poster here since I was in my mid-20’s.
About 100. They’re so far behind the times, they still make Tom Lehrer references and use “Soviet Russia” jokes, which I only recognize from looking up “Laugh-In” on Wikipedia. It’s so scary being as old as the average Doper that I wonder why they don’t just decide to end it before the last shred of dignity slips away.
I’m sure you’ll get a more factual answer after the average Doper finished their 4:30 supper.

No, from some polls done a while ago, it seems that the average is closer to 40 years. Here are two other polls that give consistent results to the one that I started (cited by Frank):

I don’t remember giving my age when I signed up. In any case, I’m now 11 years older than I was then.

You can start a poll in IMHO to find that out. However, I am a little wary of giving that information out to public officials like yourself. I can tell you that this board skews quite high on the IQ range range but we also have geeks, sportos, motorheads, dweebs, dorks, sluts and buttheads of all ages. If you are looking to put high IQ people into internment camps, don’t worry, we are way too fucked up collectively to cause any harm to anyone else. Give us a keyboard and a monitor and we will be happy to circle jerk and fight among ourselves forever.
In all seriousness, this board is unique in the internet universe. You can ask any question no matter how trivial or esoteric and get many good responses from experts that truly know what they are talking about no matter what the subject matter is. It could be anything from car repair to very detailed theoretical astrophysics questions. We have people that can answer almost anything for free.
Google, Yahoo and others tried to model the same idea and failed miserably despite vastly more money. This is the only general interest web site in the world where you can ask anything at all and get consistently good answers from people that actually care about your question.
It is all volunteer based and the only one like it. I hope you will stay if it is a fit for you but this isn’t a site for everyone. It is a refuge of the perpetually curious that want those nagging questions floating around in their head answered once and for all. If you have one or more of those, write it as best you can in the relevant forum. You will get good responses unless your question is based on false premises or your underlying logic is shaky. We aren’t very nice when people do that.
