Ice cold Lassi on the street in Varanasi. Its a delicious traditional Indian yogurt based drink.
Even better, Apricot Nector cut with soft-serve frozen yogurt and mixed by a milkshake mixer.
Comes out something very like an Apricot Lassi, but made instantly and cheaply from available materials.
Yep, a properly-made Orange Julius is sublime. However, with OJ being a part of Dairy Queen these days, it’s hit or miss; there are quite a few DQs where no one has ordered an Orange Julius in memory, and the staff don’t know how to make them right. Once I got what appeared to be a cup of orange ice chips. Bleah.
Best ever was probably raspberry cider I got from a fruit stand in Melrose, NM. I’m pretty sure the glass had an orgasm when I poured it.
Here’s a recently discovered pleasure:
Old Ballycastle ginger. It’s a mixer, non-alcoholic, and OMG does it ever give a concentrated sweet, hot ginger rush!!
It is NOT a ginger beer. It’s more like a ginger liqueur, but without the alcohol.
Some time in the mid 90’s I was in Tiajuana and got some horchata from a street vendor. Holy crap that was delicious.
I’ll have to get some of that! I see from your link that it has a little capsicum in it, as does the Goya brand I like. In a pinch I sometimes go for Cock and Bull (“Inventors of the Moscow Mule!”) since there’s a store nearby that carries it, and I’ve tried quite a few others with varying success. I’ll also look for don’t ask’s Bundaberg.
Thanks to all ginger beer fans!
Saintly Loser, I’ll second (oops, third) your endorsement of San P. Limonata.
(Now I’m craving that ginger liqueur I made a few times. Maybe I’ll have to do anther batch soon.)
Horchata! Nothing like it. Get one at your local Mexican restaurant. If they don’t have it…are you sure it’s a Mexican restaurant?
