This was not for Valentine’s Day, but it was still pretty romantic.
Hubby spent a couple of weeks in Kenya several years ago. It was quite a surprize when the flowers started arriving the day he left; 2 days later, more flowers, etc etc etc. He made arrangements with our florist to have fresh flowers or a card sent to my office every couple of days until he came home. So I wouldn’t miss him so much.
I still have the cards and people here at work still talk about how wonderful my husband is.
When I first met my wife we were both working in a fine dining restaurant in Phoenix. I was bartending and attending ASU for Graduate school and she was doing the same. I struck up a conversation with her and we immediately hit it off. Turns out we were in the same spot in our lives, and we were both from Connecticut, but living and schooling in AZ. Low and behold we went on a date to a hiking spot I had found a year earlier in Sedona, Arizona. She loved Sedona soo much and we had such a wonderful time there we both somehow knew we were the ones for each other. I was 25 she was 24…we fell mind over matter in love.
Valentines day of the same year, I brought her to a wonderful restaurant in Tempe, and we had a very romantic night out…When we got home, she saw a trail of red sand…(from Sedona) that I had collected a week earlier, it led to the loft in the appartment we were living at…up the stairs and to a room, full completely with rose petals. I had her close her eyes before we entered the room, I lit nearly 60-70 candles and we …
I’ll never forget the smile and wonder in her eyes for as long as we live…
This makes me kinda sad to think about, since as of Friday I’m newly single again.
Anyway, here is the best one I’ve done.
I cut out 200+ hearts from colored paper and put a reason why I loved the person on each. I then taped them everywhere in their bedroom. On the door was a larger heart that read “218 reasons why I love you…”
It worked really really well. Total surprise.

My ex-BF found a couple of children’s books that had a story of a bear and a cat in them. He replaced the names of the characters with those of my favorite bear and my cat. I love books and I love my bear and (now deceased) kitty. It was the sweetest thing ever. Too bad the ex-BF turned out to be such a putz.
Twice I made a four-hour drive to be there when my boyfriend (now future ex-husband) returned from overseas deployments. In both cases I was the only one there to greet him, and in one case we were just friends at the time. But I made the drive anyway. I thought it was pretty darn romantic.
Once I made arrangements to “kidnap” my wife and fly from California to Victoria, BC. She was oblivious to the whole thing. I packed her bags and arranged for her to have time off from her job. When she came home on the fateful day, I told her I was taking her out to dinner…but we went to the airport instead! Needless to say that she was surprised. We had a good, good time.
Another time I made her a 2 foot x 3 foot Valentine’s card with “I love you” written in 100 languages (Some internet research involved there for sure)…well really only 99, as one of the languages was Klingon.
Climbed to the top of a mountain where the ancients used to live on New Years Eve 1999, just the two of us, and watched as the beacons were lit across the sea marking the arrival of the third millenium. Stayed until the sun came up.
Pepper Mill loves The Phantom of the Opera, so I practiced singing Music of the Night for a month, in my car, as I drove to work. Then I met her at her house, dressed in full Phantom regalia – Mask, Cap, Hat, and full makeup – cranked up my car stereo full, and serenaded her from the street. (She was on the second floor, so we had a real balcony scene.)
It was down the Jersey shore in October, thank God, so it was nearly deserted. It’s hard enough to pull that off with an audience of one.
