What is the most severe, irrevocable change you plan to make in your life in the next four years due to politics?

There was some lady in a local mall parking lot with a similar sign yesterday. Why? You won.

I just can’t with these people.

Once of the nice things about living in a poor state is that you don’t always notice when the economy goes south. Mrs. Odesio expects to lose her job shortly after Trump takes over, so we’ve decided to curtail our spending until we can be reasonably sure what’s going to happen. Other than that, we’re white heterosexual people here in MAGAland, so as long as we keep our heads down we’ll be fine.

I think it might be safer in a red state.

If they wanna do a total clear out of the “other” they’re gonna go where they think they all are, The blue states.

That’s where the clash is gonna be.

Just my thinking.

Biding my time til the earliest retirement (6 years for me, 1 year for my wife), then will be absconding to central America for the duration. Dad is the only one left of any consideration, he’s 80, so 6 years may see an end to that obligation. If not, we’ll offer to take him with.

The title says “irrevocable.” Emigrating was major, yes. But to renounce our citizenship? There’s no take-backs on that.

I’ve been looking into emigration options, but they are limited, and my husband doesn’t want to move. I live in a low-density portion of a blue state, and expect that will provide some protection. My only visible target is being Jewish.

I do plan to upgrade my primary laptop this fall, before Trump’s tarrifs hit. Maybe I’ll hang into the one i have now and not sell it until after the tariffs go into effect.

I may move out of my blue state to another one, but that’s more to do for weather and family than politics.

I gonna cut my hair.

I understand a lot of women are gonna cut theirs. Why? I do not know.

I want to buy a firearm but I planned to do that before Trump won.

If I were alone I’d consider emigrating to Canada. Cape Breton Island probably. Similar climate to New England. But my non-binary child and their wife live here, so, no. I need to stay.

No irrevocable steps, but I have Irish citizenship by birth – my parents both emigrated from Ireland – and have my Irish passport. If I decide to live in Ireland, or anywhere else in the EU, I’m legal to work and my wife is legal to work as long as she’s married to me and registers periodically at a police station/town hall/etc.

However, I’m an attorney licensed only in Illinois, and I work for the state government, so quitting and finding a job in Europe with my deep knowledge of Illinois criminal law  is a prospect of last-ish resort. My wife’s skills carry better than mine, but I imagine HR/personnel work is significantly different in the EU than the US, even a fairly pro-labor state like Illinois.

I feel better situated to wait and see how things go as I live in a blue suburb of Chicago, with a state government (hurrah for Pritzker, the billionaire who cares that Trump only pretends to be!) that isn’t going to roll over for Trump.

Plus if Trump doesn’t foment violence or send troops into blue states, he’s still going to f*ck up the environment and worsen climate change, and Illinois and the other “rust belt” Great Lake states are in a good position re. resources including WATER. I would find it the triumph of irony if the lakeside and lake-adjacent (Detroit) cities MAGAs disdain and hold up as examples of failure rise while the drought and heat capitals of the sun-belt bake and empty because of Trump’s anti-environmental “policies”.

Google 4B.

What does that have to do with cutting hair? The 4Bs are no sex, dating or marriage with men and no giving birth - nothing to do with hair.

At least one article I read said some women who are following 4B cut their hair to avoid the male gaze. Here’s one.

I’m in Canada, so the changes I need to make are minimal. I used to visit both the CBC and CNN websites daily to get news updates. CNN will now be off my list for the next four years. I’m sick to death of seeing “Trump” everywhere I look. That ought to minimize it substantially. If he collapses the US economy, starts a Hitler-like “night of the long knives” purge of his perceived enemies, or starts a nuclear war, I’m sure I’ll see it on CBC. Otherwise I don’t care.

Retired Federal employee, and I think I’m pretty safe from anything the new government is likely to do. So I’ll just sit tight in my blue county and right out the storm.

IME they aren’t (weren’t) looking at my hair.

This depends on what is meant by “due to politics” and “irrevocable.” I am seriously considering moving out of California once I retire early in 2025, but I can’t say for certain that all of the reasons are political. How political is California’s high cost of living? Also, it’s not irrevocable as I can always move back.

Other than that, the answer is probably, “Start calling Trump ‘President Trump’ again.” I am convinced that, no matter where I go or what I do, I cannot escape politics, so any attempt to move somewhere “because of politics” would be futile.

I’m in Canada, and work for the Federal Government.

I’m eligible to retire in early 2027, but could stay on if I wanted to. But, if the Conservatives win our next election, I will almost certainly retire as soon as possible. I can’t see working for that government any longer than I absolutely have to. I’ll take my pension and luxuriate in having money, without providing them anything of value ever again.

I might do that even if they lose, but if they win, this is a near-certainty.
