I suppose it’s fortunate for me that I have rarely listened to OTA radio, so the whole overindulged-so-much-that-the-faintest-hint-makes-me-nauseous effect doesn’t happen very often (carve out some seasonal Christmas songs as an excption), but I do have a list of tracks that will cause me to switch to a curated playlist of Rush Limbaugh rants rather than listen to them. It includes:
IOU - Jimmy Dean Teddy Bear - Red Sovine Teen Angel - Mark Dinning Leader of the Pack - The Shangri-Las Last Kiss - Wayne Cochran (and every asshole that chose to cover it) (You’re) Having My Baby - Paul Anka I’ve Never Been to Me - Charlene (AKA Charlene Marilyn Oliver, née D’Angelo)
The Toni Basil drag thing is a crappy rumor that started because Carson High, where the cheerleaders are from, is largely Samoan, and some of the cheerleaders fit the typical Samoan body type. I suspect it started as a joke to ridicule those “big foreign girls.”
As a fan of NFL football, I simply cannot stand the way they have used Phil Collins’ drum solo from “In The Air Tonight” as an anthem.
Like others, I see it’s coming, so that’s when I mute the TV, get some beer and snacks, and come back when the broadcast has returned to normal, and the game begins. If it is not clear, I hate that song.
I swear, I almost never hear songs by the Cars in the wild anymore. But on a recent cruise with my wife, a DJ put on “My Best Friend’s Girl” and we hit the dance floor for the first time in years.
