I’m coming to this song late, I realize, but I’ve just seen the video and I can’t for the life of me figure out what it’s about. Ok, an edgy girl wants to have a fling with an edgy guy. But what is the video all about? Are there lots of cultural references that escape me? The guy with the metal thing on his jaw? The forcing of her to drink? The peculiar costumes? Can anyone interpret for this old stick?

I have also heard that it is more about just simply addiction and how the addiction (drugs?) will eventually take everything in one’s life.
I think the general consensus is that it’s about sex slavery/prostitution/human trafficking but in the end it’s Lady Gaga and she’s more inclined to throw together lots of images that look striking and “edgy” then make up a meaning for it later (and I say that as a big fan).
That link above - I can’t remember but is that the crazy site that accuses all these pop videos of being tools for the occult and Illuminati? Like Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ shielding her from the semen of the devil or something? That site is good for a laugh but I wouldn’t take it as a “proper” deconstruction of the video.
That site claims to have the skinny on what the video is *really *about - Lady Gaga’s infatuation with the music industry, with all its attendant evils, etc. But it also does get into symbolism of the occult, etc. When critics such as that author begin to explain such bizarre and surreal images away by saying, “Obviously, it’s a…” I get off the train. There’s no doubt a number of things in that video that mean something to Lady Gaga and/or the producers of the video, but there’s precious little that’s “obvious.” Has she said what she had intended to do in that work?
