This. Goofy is obviously a dog. I fail to spot the difficulty in figuring out that one. Pete…not so clear!

Roadrunner is pretty bad especially if you factor in the size difference.
It was years after the cancellation of The Raccoons that I found out Cedric and Cyrill were supposed to be aardvarks.
Who didn’t wear clothes, even though every other character did.
Traumatic.
How about Jiminy Cricket? Looks nothing like a cricket. Doesn’t even look like a bug, really. His closest living relative is probably the Great Gazoo from the Flintstones.
Man, that guy has a ball sack!
Good call!
Lol! You mean they weren’t pink elephants?
I hated that show. It was only marginally better than the Smoggies. The NFB was the only source of halfway watchable Canadian animation, IMO.
Oh, and Kevin Spencer, lol.
I submit myself for the crime of drawing Ollie the Oily Egret who looks nothing like an egret.
Bloom County’s Opus the Penguin looked more like a puffin than a penguin, as even the comic strip admitted at one point.
Does anyone else think Nudar on Futurama was an intentional tribute to these guys?
Wakko, Yakko and Dot. Are they dogs or rodents or what?
Wolverine doesn’t much remind me of wolverines. It doesn’t help that the artist who designed him, John Romita, thought a wolverine was a female wolf.
Batman. Bats don’t have pointy devil horns, plus they fly. Maybe he should change it to “Scary Grimace Guy.”
Quoth Diceman:
I think we might have a winner, here… I mean, even Taz at least has the right number of limbs.
And milquetoast, if you think that’s an impressive ballsack, you’ve never seen male sheep.
EDIT:
What they are, dear Doctor, is cute. So far as I know, that’s the only canonical answer.
They’re animaniacs. What makes you think they are another animal?
No, only Dot is cute.
I always thought the Animaniacs were intentionally drawn to look like Disney’s Oswald the Rabbit.
Their ears are smaller, but still very similar, and the faces are very, very similar. (Wikiand stray picture.)
Aardvarks seem to be common for this…
While Cerebus isn’t as bad as the Sneers or Arthur, you’d still have to be generous to say he actually looks like an aardvark.

Living in the water tower, behind the big WB shield, I always thought they were drawn as a tribute to the earliest Warner Bros. characters. Something like Foxy and Roxy, Bosko and Honey or Beans the cat. Since they had artists in common, that would mean they were related to Oswald, too. My mind still went to Warner rather than Disney, though.

Not that you can immediately tell what they are either.

Wally Llama says they’re puppy children.

All of you people are kidding right? Taz looks exactly like a Tasmanian devil.
