What is this tune?

This was played by the Late Show Band at their first break on the Thursday show. So as they cut to commercial I only heard a few seconds of it. I think it’s a jazz cross-over like Grazing in the Grass, something from the 60’s or 70’s

I’ve tried to notate it in the attached PDF. Keep in mind only the rhythm is correct. The notes and chords are not quite right. Any ideas?

Here is (i think !) what’s in that pdf played by onlinesequencer… is that what it sounded like ?

Thanks @pjd - yeah I’m not really close with the notes and chords. It needs to be slowed down quite a bit - it is in a slow cut time (2 to the bar)

If the eighth notes could be swung, it brings to mind Fugue For Tinhorns from Guys and Dolls.

Sorry, I’m on my phone, but there are plenty of versions on YouTube to check out.

It’s a long shot, but you never know!

It has similarities with Tico Tico No Fuba !

But i guess that’s much too fast.

Ok, here’s a slightly better version. The first phrase with the chromatic sequence is essentially correct.

Nice to know the name of that tune after all these years!

Whoever’s hands those are, they sure can tickle the ivories!

I only found out the name from this guy’s videos :-

Here he is playing the whole thing ! -

I recognize a lot of those tunes from Bugs Bunny cartoons!

Aside: Bugs Bunny and other cartoons is where a lot of us kids in the 50s got exposed to classical music.

Ok, they played it again and this time I have a clip. What is this thing?

What, this?

“The Soulful Strut.”

terentii got it…

I remember dancing to Tico-Tico no Fuba 50 years ago when I did Tuesday night open folk dancing at the University of Minnesota, but I’ll be damned if I can remember the name of the dance. Does anyone here?

Of course. I mean, really, what else are you gonna call it?

Thanks @terentii
