Foley’s sounds nice, but i’m a bit wary of trying to get such a large group there, esp. since that they’ve got live entertainment scheduled for that evening, and i think most of us would rather be able to chat without having to shout over the music.
It’d be nice to get their banquet room, but given that whole “prom and graduation” thing, chances are good that most places around downtown are already booked this weekend.
Ok, there’s a “Max’s on the Square” at 398 Geary St (just off Union Square) and “Max’s Diner” at 311 Third which is sort of in the same area we were looking at, but I don’t think they have booze there, if that’s a factor. “Max’s Opera Cafe” is at 601 Van Ness (Opera Plaza) but that’s not as convenient to BART, and a bit of a scary area at night.
If we go with Chevy’s, we’re still thinking the 3rd & Howard St location, not Embarcadero, right? (This is getting tough, lol.)
Max’s Diner has a bar area, so people can still order drinks. Max’s Opera Cafe has an excellent selection of vegetarian food but parking is difficult.
There is also a Chevy’s out at Stonestown Mall but it’s likely to be crowded.
I’d also heartily support having Indian food, again.
I was thinking Max’s Diner. The only Italian places i know about other than Buca are kinda tough to get to via BART or parking.
I was thinking of Stonestown too (they also have an Olive Garden, but don’t tell me – you all hate OG even more than Chevy’s right?) but I think it’s a bit far for ppl from the East Bay, especially if they have to take BART, and then the MUNI.
I could do Max’s Diner (although the one on the square intrigues me…is it new? It’s about the same distance from BART/MUNI.) Maybe call both and see who wants to put up with us, haha.
Yup.
I also hate hate HATE Stonestown. Talk about “missing San Francisco completely!”
I would vote against Stonestown. I’m leaning slightly toward the Chevy’s on 3rd, just because it’s easy, it’s conveniently located, and they would be able to handle our large group. I haven’t been to any of the other places, so I don’t know. But I agree with Demo that we should decide quickly. Someone should step forward by tonight and put their foot down, I think. Any takers?
Well, I’m sure we’d all like zyzzyva to be able to enjoy his dinner, so I’ll vote for any of the Max’s Restaurants. They can accomodate large groups, they serve alcohol and they have vegetarian entrees.
OKAY!
I just made a reservation for 7:30 at Max’s Diner on 3rd St (here’s a map). I reserved for 15 people, under the name Cecil Adams. It’s about equidistant from Powell or Montgomery BART Stations.
Thanks to xcheopis for the suggestion.
Oh wait, I just remembered…
Just kidding! I think we finally have a winner – yay team!
Looking at the map, I think the Montgomery station is a hair closer, but IMO the stop in front of the Old Navy will still make the best landmark for meeting if anyone still wants to meet up there?
If you’re going to meet people outside Old Navy, just make sure you’re VERY visible! That’s a very lively area on Saturday evenings.
OTOH, that’s a bit of an advantage, since the area around Monkey St is pretty desolate at that hour, save a few wandering souls.
Yeah, I was thinking anyplace near Powell St would be busy, but there are too many intersections coming together at the Montgomery stations and I think it’ll be easier for everyone to pick out the giant, garish, insult-to-good-taste Old Navy. After that, it’s pretty easy to pick, garish, insult-to-good-taste me out of the crowd. (Leopard coat, shoulder-length brown hair, carrying a yellow “Kitchen Vixen Soaps” bag for White Lightning’s mum.)
I’m still planning on being there. Especially if Kyla is still offering a ride.
You go, zyzzyva. You da man.
Let’s stick with Old Navy. Montgomery can’t be too much closer, since it’s only about a five minute walk from Powell itself.
So I’m planning on meeting voguevixen and whoever else (anyone else?) on Market St. outside of Old Navy at… 7:15? Oh, and 'vixen, will you take a check? I’m good for it, I promise.
Okie Dokie. I’ll be at Max’s.
Check is fine, make it out to Kitchen Vixen Soaps. See you soon!
This time, I’ll make sure to use the flash when I take a picture of White Lightning. My attempt at the last Dopefest turned out fuzzy because I didn’t.
Snooooopy, I think it’s just as well that the greater Dope world doesn’t get a look at me in that shirt I was wearing.
Even though I won’t get to wear a prom dress, Drachillix will haul my pouting, sulking self to BAD.
(I can SO wear a ball gown, I don’t CARE if you won’t wear a tux with a matching cumberbund.)
