Fathom from The Elementals.
For current heroeins(sp), I have to go with Oracle/Batgirl.
You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

Sarah, from Witchblade
Storm would have to be second. Rogue was always pretty cool though. X-Men
If you could remember all of your dreams…
you certainly would not want them to come true.
Another vote for Oracle/Batgirl here.
Second. . . not sure. Let me think.

Another day, another attempt to cross Niagra Falls on a tightrope. . .
Elektra, especially in the “Elektra, Assassin” series.
“It’s only common sense,
There are no accidents 'round here.”
I wanna be Silver Sable when I grow up.
“…being normal is not necessarily a virtue. It rather denotes a lack of courage.”
Christine Spar, from Grendel, who kicked more ass than I knew existed at the time
Runner-Up: Jaka (Cerebus) for utterly different reasons
…but when you get blue, and you’ve lost all your dreams, there’s nothing like a campfire and a can of beans!
I always liked Death from Sandman, though Delirium had some good moments, too.
However, the comics as a medium don’t treat women all that well. Too many artists draw like they’ve never actually SEEN a woman.

I second Da Ace’s nomination of Christine Spar of Grendel fame and Jaka, but for tie runner-ups. My fav heroine, as cheesy as she may sometimes be, is definitely Nausicaa (of the Valley of Wind).
Finding out about that kabuki dude collecting the eyeballs of little boys for eating was horrible, wasn’t it Ace?
Kunilou, I am so glad someone else remembers and celebrates Old Lois! Not only was she plucky, but she managed to maintain her perfect Laura Petrie hairdo and Chanel suit even when battling evil-doers!
Never underestimate a three-inch spike heel’s use as a weapon . . .
I don’t remember Lois in a Chanel suit (I read all those late '50s-early '60s stories in the 25-cent DC Giants in the late '60s)…she was ALWAYS wearing this ugly damn orange dress (calf-length) with a belt. Like, ALWAYS.
I distinctly remember Supey displaying a closetful of Lois Lane robots (possibly created to have sex with his closetful of Superman robots), and they were all in those identical orange dresses. He must have hit Loehmann’s that morning.
And was the hair a Laura Petrie? I seem to remember it as being real flat and stiff-looking, then ballooning out at the level of her jaw-line. Schoolmarm-style.
I’m sorry, ladies…early '60s Lois was NOT babelicious. I’ll take the late '60s-early '70s version, when her figure filled out, her hair got big, and her hems zipped up to the bottom of her butt.
Uke
Bah! Sacrelige! Del ‘had some good moments’? She was, without a doubt (IMO, at least) the most interesting of the Endless. And tied with Hob Gadling for the most interesting character in the entire series. She knows things, things that aren’t in Destiny’s book.
Now for my actual answer. Officer Miyuki Kobayakawa from You’re Under Arrest. Smart, level headed (at least compaired to her partner Natsumi Tsujimoto ^__^), a mechanical wizard, and a devoted friend.
Either her or Officer Aoi Futaba…(heheheh)
Eschew Obfuscation
All you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people.
Ah, no… the best of them all was Mary Jane, with her pet mouse Sniffles. When Mary Jane (an Alice in Wonderland look-alike) said the magic words, she was reduced to mouse-size so that she and Sniffles could resolve whatever the problem was.
Not sure what comics she was in… I think the DC humour line for us li’l kids, back in the late 50s.
Saturn Girl of the Legion of Super-Heroes. She was a real take-charge kind of gal, back in the days of the “ooh, who’ll save me?” era of comic book women.
The new Supergirl’s pretty good. A bit too much angst, and a very complicated origin story, but she is a hottie.
BTW, all you Lois Lane fans, you should check her out in some recent issues of Superman comics. This is not your father’s LL…
Okay, I see there are a few X-Men fans out there, or you are at least familiar with them. See if you agree with the casting of the new X-Men live-action movie coming out: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0120903 Were the women picked for their acting abilities or because they look good in a super-hero suit? (Halle Berry as Storm… I would’ve cast Iman. She’s from Africa as Storm is, so she wouldn’t have to learn a new accent. Or did they re-write Storm as an American? Maybe Halle Berry can do accents… Hmmmmmm…)

If you feel that you must suffer, then plan your suffering carefully–as you choose your dreams, as you conceive your ancestors.
Used to be Arrowette, but then she cracked, tried to kill a guy and quit, so that’s on hold until I find out if she’s coming back.
So, until then, probably either Emma Frost or Shadowcat. Or maybe Secret.
Gah, I forgot all about the Sandman comics. I am disgraced.
Death and Delirium are both great, but I too must give the nod to Death. . .

Another fave is Sgt. Leona Ozaki from “Tank Police”. Not a superhero, but if you’ve got a tank designed for urban law enforcement  ; & it can reach road speeds rivaling a racing motorcycle  –what’s the diff?
With magic, you can turn a frog into a prince. With science, you can turn a frog into a Ph.D, and you still have the frog you started with.
Well, I like to grind up a few issues of Elfquest. They really get me high…
Oh! Comic book heroine, not comic book heroin.
I’d have to say I’m fond of Jenny from Zot! Okay, she’s not a SuperHero, per se, but hanging around Zach certainly awakened the adventuress inside her.
