I’m not a desert eater generally. All taste good, but none are a real big deal so i typically skip all deserts as easy calories to avoid.
Ice cream and bread pudding are my go to deserts if I do feel like splurging. So I voted “other.” Cake and pie don’t do it for me. I do enjoy a glass of Port after a good meal.
Other. I’m not a big desserts person, but a little bit of ice cream or a cookie are great for me. After that, cake, but it depends on the kind of cake, of course.
Let’s see… my three favorite desserts, in descending order, are pecan pie, kanafehand lemon meringue pie. Since the first and third are pies, and the second is somewhere between a pie and a pastry, I’ll have to say “pie”.
I voted “other” - I like custards (Crème caramel and crème brûlée, especially, but I wouldn’t trifle over a trifle), and meringues - baked Alaska, Eton mess, Pavlova - and puddings (which is not the same things as what the OP means by pudding, I gather) - summer pudding is my favourite, closely followed by malva pudding.
I realise many of those contain fruit. But they are not what I’d call a “fruit dessert”
Sliced apple, or orange slices seem completely different than delicious Cantaloupe. It’s our most frequent dessert. We have Cantaloupe or honeydew melon at least twice a week.
Anyway, it seemed ok to consider an apple as a separate poll choice vs melons.
No more different than French silk pie is from cherry pie, or chocolate layer cake is from white angel food cake, or peppermint discs are from Snickers bars.
Cannoli. But only if it’s done right. Creme brulee, done right, is a close second. If I’m dealing with a chef of unknown competency, brownies and vanilla ice cream. Those have a pretty high floor. Chocolate cake is the brownie’s inferior cousin. Come at me.
