What is your Favorite type of Cake?

Orange Almond cake with Chocolate frosting.

Whichever cake is in front of me last.

My vote is: any cake thats not from a grocery store

There are very few bad cakes, but this one is probably my favorite. An all-time classic, for good reason.

Other favorites:
– my former co-worker’s carrot cake
– pineapple upside down cake - I’m craving this and need to make one
– Mexican tres leches cake. Yummy!

Angel food cake
Chocolate cake with white buttercream icing
German Chocolate cake with coconut icing
Wedding cake when it is from a good bakery - not just white cake

Without question, my favorite cake is my own made-from-scratch chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. The cake recipe is from a Hershey’s Cocoa leaflet I sent away for in 1979 (at least, that’s the copyright date); I made up the frosting recipe but certainly didn’t invent it as I remember eating choc/PB cake as a little kid.

Runners up:
*Chocolate Pudding Cake. A brownie-like top layer and chocolatey custard underneath – whipped cream or vanilla ice cream melting down; it’s a cinch to make and serve warm on those late fall, football Sundays.
*Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting

I find most restaurant cakes to be disappointing, no matter how yummy they look on the dessert cart (with the exception of carrot cakes). Grocery store and most bakery cakes are abominable with that frosting that tastes like Crisco and chemicals. Bad ones.

Like Fried Dough Ho, I’m not a fan of boxed cake mixes and really can tell the difference. Same goes for brownies.

My other favorite cake is actually made in the bakery of Fry’s (grocery, not electronics) and consists of a layer sponge cake with lemon and cream mousses. OMG this cake is so freaking good I cannot even put it into words!

I insist that you send me some as proof!!!

Depending on mood:

Cheesecake
Dobash cake
German Chocolate cake
Spice cake with creamcheese frosting.

Also, does gingerbread hot out of the oven count? Because it totally should.

I am also not a fan of frosting, with the exception of creamcheese or coconut frostings. 90% of the time I don’t eat the frosting on my slice of cake, just cause I don’t like it.

Angel food.

Seconded. …and it should be pound cake with buttercream icing.

  1. cheesecake
  2. carrot cake with cream cheese frosting
  3. Italian rum cake
  4. white cake
  5. any chocolate cake that doesn’t have raspberry filling ditto for wedding cakes

Yes and yes. I also like pineapple upside down cake. My husband and daughter will insist that they don’t like this last kind…but somehow, when I make it, it all gets eaten up by a couple of people who insist that it really wasn’t THAT good, it was just THERE.

If made from scratch, then I guess any kind of cake!

Very recently I made white cake from the recipe on the back of the King Arthurs cake flour box.I wanted to make a homemade birthday cake for a party of 12 yo’s, simple recipe really but would the kids like it? I opted for large cupcakes, with homemade chocolate icing and sprinkles. It was some fine cake, the kids? little beggars, resisted the white cake, tried to figure it out, what flavor, it’s too dry, oh! they were befuddled, but couldnt stop eating it, because of the icing, I suspected my white cake was going to the trash, but found no evidence of it. The next morning, they all bolted for the leftover jumbo white cupcakes with chocolate frosting… I knew I would win them over.

This is my favorite. We used to get it from a local bakery for any occasion requiring a cake. Most commercial cakes are so dry, and I always liked that this was really moist.

This thread is making me crave cake.

First choice will always be chocolate cake with raspberry filling and hazelnuts. Then depending on my mood, any type of caramel-coffee cakes, white cake with strawberries and icing, or cheesecake with fruit topping.

  1. Cherry cake with chocolate icing.
  2. Red Velvet.
  3. Italian Cream.

Carrot, sans frosting (or at least the much less sickly-sweet versions of it).

Red Velvet, Tres Leches, or Black Forest, but the latter only if it has cherry pie filling in it.

Oh, and layered coconut cake, with or without lemon.

Pineapple upside down cake
Coffee cake
Plain sponge with jam and cream
Pavlova (not a cake, but I still love it)
