What is your profession?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!, this is the second crapola job that I have sucked **WHEELIE[/] into.

I drive to various Shitholes (generally in Texas) and live in crappy conditions for weeks at a time while pretending to be a Geologist (officialy I am a “Senior Mudlogging Technician”), I monitor various parameters and look at rocks during the drilling of oil and gas wells, I am changing areas soon moving from South Texas to Northeast Texas.

But my dream (I am less than a year away) is to be a self-unemployed small business owner and that is my focus right now.

Unclviny

Heheh. Self unemployed sounds much cooler than plain old unemployed.

Heh. I guess that would make me a graphic designer at a company whose name is often used as an adjective synonymous with “schmaltz”.

Hehe, no, that would be too much fun! I’m UK based, Brighton. Was over in NY last year for a vist. The Tower is rather nice. Was up on the 38th I think with the Compliance crew.

Anyway, shouldn’t you be working

Working? Nonsense. I don’t start until the 27th. But now I know that at least one person in the firm already knows about my SDMB habit…

I’m not a medical technologist, but I bet you hate it when people call you a “medical technician” because they don’t know difference.

After a while, it isn’t worth the breath to try to correct them. However, people get really interested in what I do when I say I used to do urine/blood analysis for drugs…

At the moment I’m a full-time (and then some) SAHM with twin babies.

When the kids are old enough that Daddy is willing to spend a whole day watching them all by himself, then I’ll go back to being a professional artist doing quick-sketch portraits at art fairs, craft fairs, etc. I’ve also sold a few paintings and drawings here and there.

Prior to self-employment, I worked at 38 different jobs (counting temp assignments and teaching). I’ve worked for architects, accountants, marketers, a pharmaceutical company, a lawyer who wouldn’t wear shoes, the two big soft drink companies, the public library, University professors, and a luxury home builder; I’ve done fast-food, telemarketing for the Symphony, accounts payable and receivable, retail sales, service coordinating, payroll for a real AFL-CIO union, proofreading for a leading provider of weather forecasting, taught some art classes, and sold bird houses and (now banned) ant poison to hardware stores over the phone.

I’m a writer for a community college.

Slightly more specifically, I’m the communications person for a grant-funded project with the general goal of increasing student success.

Currently, I teach English to Chinese kids at an primary school in a suburb of Shenzhen, out near Hong Kong (and by “near” I mean “close enough to see the barbed-wire fence guarded by soldiers with AK-47s”).

I teach 7th Grade Reading. I just got my Masters’ in Guidance, so I hope to be a Counselor soon.

I also work the Front Office at a supermarket on weekends and school breaks.

My husband has a slightly more interesting career; he’s an over the road truck driver.
