What is your standard, fallback, baseline food you can eat at anytime?

This is a tough question to put into words because I don’t think that there is a term for it. What food do you eat when you are not sure what you want and that you can eat multiple times without getting tired of it? Do you have a “standard” meal?

I personally can eat a 6 inch Subway Club on wheat with Sun Chips and a cookie along with a Dr. Pepper at any time day or night regardless of how I feel and regardless if I just had it yesterday. If I am at home, I can always fall back on Cambell’s clam chowder with a few croutons along with a salad with bacon bits regardless of circumstances.

Let me give you a few situations that might help people understand my question. What food do you like to eat: when you are hungry but are not sure for what, when you had a big lunch and don’t feel like having something big for dinner, when you are tired and don’t feel like cooking, when you woke up late- maybe too late for breakfast then all the sudden it is 11:00am and time for lunch, when you are driving to the lake or state park and you need to eat a little something before that won’t waste much time or get you too full, when you start to feel like you are coming down with something and you don’t feel like eating anything “challenging”? I am not necessarily talking about “comfort food” but I am sure that many people’s comfort food and “Standard, baseline, fallback food” are the same things.

Cold chicken. I live off the stuff.

Toasted cheese and vegemite sandwiches

Boiled eggs.

Eggbeaters and apples.

Mashed potatoes. Possibly with corn niblets and some kind of meat.

Cheese. Mozarella, Parmesean, Gouda, Irish Cheddar, Feta, etc. I would live off of cheese in a heartbeat if I could.

Mashed potatos and canned green beans are a distant second.

Chicken salad. If it’s in my fridge, I will eat it every single day until it is no longer in my fridge.

I could probably go a long, long time before I tired of peanut butter and jelly and mac ‘n’ cheese, too.

Fruit, apples in particular. I would only eat apples if it wouldn’t kill me or if I could afford it. And there are so many different varieties. Galla, Rome, Fuji, Granny Smith, Golden Delicious, Braeburn… Augh, now I’m craving one.

Spaghetti with tomato sauce. A bit less “snacky” than some of the foods others chose, but it’s definitely the one meal I can still enjoy even if I’ve had it for three days straight.

Potatoes!

You can boil 'em, steam 'em, mash 'em, fry 'em, roast 'em, bake 'em in cheese sauce and eat them with anything else you’ve got lying around the house.

Taters make me happy on the inside.

Cheese sandwich with spicy mustard.

Ham, cheese and tomato toasted sammich. Lots of pepper.

Cheese on toast with Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce
Dark chocolate
Vanilla icecream

Porridge, any sort of bran flake cereal, apples and bananas.

With this sort of diet, I should probably be shifting the slight belly I’ve been getting of late, but these are fall back foods, not something i eat over anything else everyday

Hummus with sharp cheddar on whole wheat pita.

Dannon’s Light & Fit Cherry Vanilla Yogurt.
It’s a non-fat, low sugar variety, and I know most people would say, “That’s your standard, baseline, fallback food?!? What the hell is wrong with you?” but it’s very tasty and satisfying.
I’m addicted to them.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

Grilled cheese sandwiches.

Eggs - scrambled, fried, omelets, whatever.

Cheese of any type.
