I’ve always thought that the song that sums me up best is “Mr. Tanner,” by Harry Chapin. Especially the lyric, “he sang from his heart, and he sang from his soul; he did not know how well he sang, it just made him whole.” MY song. Mine.
Lately I’ve also been deeply identifying with “I’m Not That Girl,” from the musical Wicked. That’s probably what would cue up for me at the moment. (And it’s hella fun to sing!)
Funny, I always think of “Head Over Heels” because that’s my favorite TFF song.
Holy crap! I love that song (in fact I recently used it in my Folklore class)! I love Nik Kershaw! I didn’t know that anyone else here knew Nik!
For him I always hear Billy Joel – “My Life.”
For you, Anastasaeon: “Dreams” by Van Halen.
Telperien: “Elenore” by The Turtles.
Sunspace: “Brand New Day” by Sting.
Johnny L.A.: “Red Barchetta” by Rush.
Hmm, it’s funny how I can quickly think of songs for some Dopers but not for others … even other Dopers who I read a lot and always enjoy. Go figure. Maybe more will come to me tomorrow!
“Flagpole Sittah” just for the line about “hear the voices in my head, I swear to God they sound like they’re snoring…”
“The Vicious Blues” from “Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle.” My internal picture of myself is a composite of Dorothy Parker, Anita Loos, and Zelda Fitzgerald.
When feeling blue, I enjoy the soothing depressingness of The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony.
When especially happy I sing aloud Brandy by Looking Glass.
Unfortunately, nearly every day I find myself humming or singing The Gambler by Kenny Rogers, so it’s gotta be that or nothing.
PS - Translucent Daydream, it’s TRULY
“No More Mr. Nice Guy” by Alice Cooper when i’m feeling particularly antisocial (i.e., all the time…), “Bad to the Bone” by George Thorogood also sneaks in there…
right now, i’ve got the Imperial March playing in my head as i go threaten some computers to force them to behave…
Mine used to be “Fuck and Run” by Liz Phair (I was such an angsty girl), but since I sort of outgrew that part of my life, I haven’t really settled on another song.
This week it’s Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers Buffalo
The Journey Of The Sorcerer by The Eagles would have to be my Theme Tune, with John Williams’ Raider’s March as a very close second.
Other possibilities include Yakkity Sax (who doesn’t love sexy parties? ) and The James Bond Theme, depending what I’m doing at the time…
I confess I don’t really know any of the other posters here well enough to have mentally assigned them theme music, so I guess you all get whatever’s on my MP3 player when I’m reading your posts…
Dude!! LOFL!!! I always joked that the first song I’d like to dance to as a married man is Utah Saints theme from Mortal Kombat.
As for my own soundtrack, whenever tasked with something at work, such as getting a delivery out on time, with the clock ticking, I always mentally break into
The Propellerheads SPYBREAK.
It’s the first song I remember hearing, and it’s always been my theme/song I want played at my funeral.
If I had to choose a new one, it’d be one of the following:
Cletus Awreetus-Awrightus - Frank Zappa (since Peaches En Regalia has already been taken )
Any Colour You Like - Pink Floyd
Aristillius - Camel
10’000 Words in a Cardboard Box - The Aquarian Age
Borogoves (Part One) - National Health
