In Freddy Got Fingered, Rip Torn’s character (the father of Tom Green’s character) is frequently shown with two striking black-and-white hounds. The backs and upper legs, and the ears, are black, and the rest of the body is white with some areas of black-on-white spots, like a Dalmatian. I’d like to know what breed they are.
Pointers usually have a shorter tail, it’s docked if too long, but a long tail is possible if they weren’t docked. Dalmatians usually do not have big sold patches like that although it’s possible.
The pics are kind of fuzzy but the body type looks more pointer or some other sporting breed. Although most of the dalmatians I see are overweight, their body type and head shape is supposed to be a little leaner and, I don’t know how to describe it, maybe more tapered. This applies to the head shape as well. They should be well muscled but a lean muscle, like a runner. Pointers should also be lean but more muscled, less runner and more all around sporty guy. These dogs don’t look particulary overweight so I’d expect them to look more like their actual breed body shape.
I’m leaning more toward a Pointer or other sporting or hound breed. Although they don’t look much like any AKC hound or sporting breed other than pointer but there’s lots of breeds that are not AKC recognized. I’m not familiar with all those other breeds. There is the possibility that they could be mixes or definitely not show quality dalmatians.
Thanks for the answers. Those two hounds look a little too uniform in their patterns to be just any old mongrel - they seem like they were bred specifically to have those characteristics. If anyone knows anything more specific about the possible breed of pointer they are, or if there’s a specific name for the type of markings they have, let me know.
The movie takes place in Oregon. Since the character who owns the pair of dogs is frequently shown wearing a camouflage hat, I’m going to assume that they’re used as hunting dogs.
I like the look of these dogs even more than those of a fully-spotted dalmatian. Not that regular dalmatians aren’t badass, but the black over-markings are really unique.
