OK, this may be one of the silliest questions ever asked on these boards, but I’m highly fashion impaired. After hearing lots of people rave about how comfortable they are, I finaly bought myself a pair of moccasins (in charcoal.) But I’m stumped as to what kind of socks to wear with them. I have a few pairs of dress socks, for occasions when dress shoes are appropriate, a lot of sweat socks for use with my usual Chuck Taylors, and some hiking socks for the less and less frequent hiking trips. But none of these seem to work well with the mocs. Any suggestions from the snazzy teaming millions out there?
No socks or dress socks with a muted pattern.
With shorts, definitely no socks.
If you’re wearing these with jeans or khakis, I would say no socks or socks in muted colors, like Muffin said. What color are your hiking socks? Are they really thick or thinnish? If thinner and not white or black, those would work. I’d disagree with the dress sock idea, if what you mean by dress socks are those really thin things you’d wear with dress shoes and a suit. If you just mean the ones you’d wear with dressy/casual clothes (khakis and a buttoned-shirt), they’d be good.
Ok, that was kind of complicated.
Whatever the undertaker decides, because the only way you’ll see me in moccasins is if I’m dead.
If you’re gonna wear socks. Which will keep the moccasins from smelling like feet. You should get you some low quarter crew or ankle socks with the “odor eater” toes and heels. I wear Wilsons with mine. If you’re just gonna wear infrequently then I wouldn’t worry about it. I wear mine just about every day though and I’ve worn moccasins for years. I made my first pair about twenty years ago and have always had a pair, both ankle and knee high. It keeps them from smelling bad and it also prevents them from wearing out from the inside. the combination of moisture (sweat) and grit (your feet) will wear them out faster on the inside than the soil will on the outside. Think about how fast your shoe insoles would wear out if you didn’t have socks on and how BAD they’d smell.
The moccasins in question are not actually moccasins. More like suede shoes that do not have a tongue or laces, and that have an athletic sole.
You mean like deck shoes?
The link the OP listed was to an LLBEAN shoe. To me it is an updated boat shoe or hard soled diving bootie that LLBEAN refers to a “moc”.
I think when you say moccasin, people think of these. At least I do, since I live in Texas.
The LLBEAN version, you can pretty much wear any sock you want to, however if you are wearing an “Indian Moccasin” you normally wear no socks.
Not even that moccasin-like. Check out the photo in the OPs link.
oh shit :smack: my bust… that ain’t no damn moccasin. That’s a ff***ng deck shoe with treaded soles. Once upon a time they called 'em loafers.
What Tiggrkitty linked to is moccasins. Been making and wearing 'em for at least 20 years. I’d still wear the Wilson crewsocks though. I started wearing moccasins years ago when I tracked deer and other game. I didn’t wear any socks then 'cause sometimes I’d have to get barefoot to stay quiet when stalking through the dry leaves. Also, going uphill in dry leaves and pine straw on iron ore can get pretty slippery. You’d be surprised at how good your bare feet work in cases like that.
That and I lived in a tent on a mountain for a year and socks were a luxury.
footies?
