This book is soooo bad! I can’t believe I’m still reading it. So far, we’ve had a hit and run and a gunfight at a fund raiser. Now they’ve kidnapped a young, good looking doctor, because that’s what this series needs. to infinity. There’s been lots of sex, too. It’s only Friday. The book started on Monday. More  I think I may sprain my eyeballs.
I just saw a radar of the rain, and it looks like you’re getting that rain now.
We got a teensy bit of rain earlier. Since then the storms all appear to be moving near us but not over us. Near enough to us, however, to cause a power flicker an hour ago that knocked computers and the TV cable offline briefly, causing everything to reboot. Grr…I hate having the power flicker without even getting any precipitation out of it! Because we could definitely use the rain, too. Not so much over our house, but I know there’s a lot of farmers in this area whose crops have been looking mighty dry when we’ve driven past them.
Oh well. At least I went and got my hair done – I’ve kept meaning to make an appointment for two weeks, and then when I finally got around to it I had to call half an hour before my appointment this morning because I had to go get Papa Tigs a doctor’s appointment instead. But they were kind enough to fit me in at 5 pm today, which I appreciated, and made my appreciation known in the form of nice tips. Hey, money talks, right? Not that they wouldn’t have been nice anyway because they are nice. But it’s good to give people a reward for their niceness, I figure. But I also made him a massage appointment; presumably a good massage will help the muscular tightness that is almost definitely contributing to his pinched nerve. My hands just aren’t strong enough any more to do a deep enough massage, unfortunately.
I’d better turn in pretty quick; I have to get up and run a bunch of errands before my own doctor’s appointment in the morning; whiterabbit will have to take Papa Tigs to his since he ain’t driving with all those Good Drugs in his system. All this, of course, happens just when I say, oh, sure, I can take on that extra-huge board meeting transcript due July 3, on top of another big I already had. The one I already had looks to be running long, of course – doesn’t that always happen when you’re in a rush? It’s a good thing nobody has plans to do anything this weekend except nurse Papa Tigs back to some version of health. And listen to him whine about being bored. Oy.
A missile. A freakin’ missile. Forget jumping the shark, this is a tank full of sharks with laser beams on their heads and Nazis riding dinosaurs. I can’t *wait *to find out how they survived the missile strike.
No rain here, it’s a lovely summer evening with a nice breeze.
Well, yeah, I’m good with that.
I just wanted to make sure you all didn’t think my mind was MORE filthy. Because really, how could that happen?!
Mork, why are the fireworks called balls? They look more like arcs of light. Where are the balls? (in regards to the fireworks)
Jahdra, I missed the part where you told us why you’re reading this book and what book it is. But it sounds fascinating. If it’s not a secret, could you re-tell which book you’re reading? I’d like to at least look it up on Amazon.
And please don’t forget to take pics of the poodle before you send it to swampy.
Well, yeeeaaaah. I thought that was already established a while ago.
rosie, sorry you’re having a lousy day. I hope tomorrow is better.
Seconded.
Another big hug out to Mamatigs. Seems like a lot going on there.
Ok, it’s done. That was lousy. Now I want to burn the whole series, because that book ruined it. They all survived the missile, but the boat sank. Here’s some sample dialog:
“You *executed *a CIA handler?”
“Yes, I did.” It had to be done, you see, or else millions of people will die. Yes, she went there. The transformation from Xena to Jack Bauer is complete!
roo, I was reading Honor Under Siege, theoretically for fun. It was very un-fun. I wrote a scathing review for Amazon, and then thought better of it. I can be rather nasty when I’m annoyed, so I’ll wait until I’ve calmed down a bit. Or I’ve blocked the book from my memory, which shouldn’t take too long.
I did get two other books today, one about EMTs in training, by an author with an interesting style of writing that takes a while to get into. The other is about a defense attorney on a rape case who sleeps with the victim that night before she, the victim, takes the stand, whereupon the defense attorney tears her to pieces, and yeah, I don’t know why I bought that one either. It’s supposed to be a romance. Apparently I have no taste whatsoever.
Is it ok that I laughed when I read your excerpt? Thanks for satisfying my curiosity.
I thought it was interesting that the author only has one name–Radclyffe. That amused me. I’m easily amused.
And Amazon had the release date as June 30, 2007 by Bold Stroke books. That made me giggle too. It must be getting late. How did you get an advance copy? Did they release it early?
WHY AM I AWAKE???
seriously, why? I go thru this every noght lately - I get up around 12:30 (if I’m not already awake watching TV) for a, um, recycle break - and I cannot get back to sleep til after 2am!
AAAUUUGH!
Thank you both
I guess…
I’d say that, yeah, I prefer to act my shoe size than my age, except shoes here go by European numbers, so I’m wearing shoes #… (checks)… 43 :smack:
OK, I’m just a teen-ager in a middle aged body for no good reason whatsoever, then…
Last day of school for the Terrible Twins[sup]TM[/sup] happens today. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad for my mental health…
Appropriate yays and boos to everybody! And **Rosie **-- of course you can point and laugh back at me on Sunday; that’s the whole idea. I wouldn’t laugh at you if you couldn’t laugh back… because I, too, am nice, dammit!
I’d say I act somewhere between my Korean shoe size (220) and my American shoe size (5).
What am I doing up at this hour?
Do you ever get the desire to answer a question in a way that’s absolutely no help to the person asking it? We have an open day here for prospective students, they come for a wander around campus and then go to look at the facilities in the Schools they’re hoping to apply to.
You can tell the visitors, they’re the ones wandering around clutching campus maps and looking very confused. On my way into the office this morning, someone asked me if I knew where Building 14 was. I barely overcame the urge to reply that it was between Buildings 13 and 15…but instead I had to ask what was in B14 because on my planet, buildings have functions rather than numbers. Turns out they wanted the Learning Centre which is a shiny new building, with the words “Learning Centre” in big white letters on the sides, not five feet from where they were standing. See? I was helpful today.
It’s Friday. Off to work I go.
Up and caffeinating. Today is my appt. with the endocrinologist about my thyroid ultrasound results. It’s a morning appt. but I decided to take the whole day–it would be ridiculous to try to get to work after the appointment anyway; the clinic is downtown and I live & work in the 'burbs. Please keep me in your thoughts today–needless to say, I"m still quite nervous.
That sounds like a very special book, Jah. I think I’ll skip it.
Good thoughts going out your way, tarra.
Me, I’ll be 50 in November. I was chatting with a colleague on Wednesday and found out he was 51, which completely freaked me out, since I always thought he was at least 5 years older than me. I’m definitely much younger inside, though. 12? 20? 30? 40? No idea.
We got lots of rain!!! 2" according to the rain gauge. (I think the first inch came down while I was standing at my front door.)
Well, I guess I should do something to get ready for work.
It’s Friday!!!
GT
Yay! I have a lady from the cat rescue place coming round tonight with a humane trap so that we can try to catch little Prestwick, the chav kitten. He’s got a kind of bloke’s curb bracelet in place of a collar but he’s got it caught around his body and I think it’s matted into his fur with the skin underneath getting infected. So he needs help, but he won’t let me near him to physically catch him myself.
I can see this is going to be a fun weekend!
We got a ton of rain yesterday, too! Joy! The green space is now actually green instead of crispy brown.
I’ve had a busy week here at Home Vacationland. Up early is the only time I have for myself! Although, after a trip to the library, I plan to actually READ something. I miss my book-a-week habit!
Off to get a second cup of coffee. I haven’t kept up with the MMP this week at all … hope everyone’s well.
Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here.
Herbs prayers and good thoughts head your way from south Jawja. Hope everything’s ok.
Ok, folks, listen… all this rain… send some down heah, dangit! We keep gettin’ promised rain but it won’t happen. We need it.
In other excitin’ news… I’m goin’ to the farmer’s market later this mornin’ to check out watermelons and veggies. I’m plannin’ on buyin’ some peas, butterbeans, green beans, etc that I can, to use a good ol’ southern term, “put up” in my freezer. Course that means snappin’ and shellin’ peas and beans but I can do that. I envision doin’ the same thing with okra and corn and squash later on. Well, ‘cept one does not snap or shell those. One shucks corn, which is kinda like shellin’ when ya think about it… I tend to buy stuff like that when they’re plentiful and relatively cheap cause it’s nice to have “fresh” stuff in the winter and all. Even frozen, they taste better than the frozen stuff in the stores. Of course that’s cause they have my special touch.
Ok, off for more caffiene and to purtify.
Later Y’all!
Mornin’ y’all.
I had the course final last night for the EMT class. I got an 81% on the test, which was a passing grade, and it also put me in the top 5 of the class. Even last night, I didn’t crack the book, but I did go over a couple of old tests in preparation. If I ever did apply myself, that 95% on the certification should be a piece o’ cake.
I have bunch of old paycheck stubs and bank statements with me to fax to the mortgage dude. I’m refinancing the VunderLair so I can have the kitchen redone, and to get VunderKind’s college money back so I can get him edjumacated.
Is it quit o’clock yet?
Is it quit o’clock yet?
soon, Bobbio, soon. Mere hours away.
And you heard Special1, gang. On Sunday, we all point and laugh!
It’s less than 3hrs until quit o’clock for me!
