We have June gloom here. It was a bit damp this morning, but that’s all. They’re closing the closest parking lot to work for the Grand Prix next month, so I have to walk the long way. It’s pretty, through a park and along the river. However, at this hour, all of the homeless are arising, which can be startling.
This morning I hear, “Good morning, Siamee!” behind me and poof! There are 3 cats where none were before. Then more cats start streaming out of the bushes towards the voice. It’s time for din-din. The striking thing about these cats to me, besides the Siamese pointed one, is that they don’t look like what I expect feral cats to look like. Where I come from, feral cats are long and lean, with even longer tails and sharp, pointed faces with large, pointed ears, or else tiny, delicate creatures with the same features in miniature. These cats are short and cobby, with round heads and small, rounded ears and medium length tails. I think it’s fascinating how different the populations are, given that they really aren’t that far apart.
I would *like * an iPhone, but I would like lots of things. Since I hardly use the antique I have now, I can’t justify the upgrade in both phone and service plan. (My current plan costs me $20/month for 60 minutes, which I never use up, and the phone was $30 - 4 years ago.)
Will someone please pack up some of that rain and send it out to Colorado? For most of the week we have been taunted with the prospect of rain, dark cloudy skies, forecasts of thunderstorms, yet nary a drop has fallen.
Woo Hoo! I just got an email that the guy with the breakfast burritos is here! Despite everything there are some benefits to being here in Colorado, I’ll be right back… mmmm breakfast burrito.
I’ll probably take a look at buying an iPhone once my current contract is up in about 18 months. I figure by then it will be on the second or third generation and hopefully be a little cheaper (and hopefully my pocketbook will be a little fatter).
Seriously? After meeting you I would have sworn up and down that you were no older than your late 30s.
I’m takin’ a break from pea shellin’/snappin’. I’m gonna be doin’ a lot of this over the next day or two! Then again, I’ll have some help this weekend for which I’m sure I’ll have to show proper “appreciation.” Anywho, I’ve got close to half of the field peas shelled/snapped (I like peas and snaps) so that’s good. Ima cook some of 'em tonight with some poke chops and Spanish rice. That will be nummy!
Ok, off to make me a sammich cause tummy is rumbly then back to pea shellin/snappin and on to butter bean shellin’ and green bean snappin’… and gettin’ this stuff put up too! I feel like a farm wife!
ETA: gt you’re just a whippersnapper. Git off’n muh lawn!
I get that a lot too. Couple weeks ago, I had just stepped out of the hardware store, and someone asks me if I knew where Fox Hardware was. “Did you happen to see what building I just walked out of? Well, that’s the hardware store. I know, they really try to hide it with the big ACE sticking out over the door, and all of the tools in the windows…”
Then there was the shool bus driver, apparently tring to find where to retrieve the kids after a field trip to the museum. “Across the street - it’s that absurdly blue building cleverly hidden among the beige and gray ones.”
Yesterday, DH changed his mind about the two-week notice he’d given, so last night, we went to the building to retrieve the last few things he had at his desk and drop off the keys and phone. On the way there, it was as if every small red car had made plans to be the slowest thing on the road. We encountered no fewer than four small red cars driving at least five miles slower than prevailing traffic. Very strange.
Back from the Endocrinologist. I have to go to Wash. Hospital Center for a needle aspiration biopsy. There are many nodules, several of them quite large and one is hard. According to the doctor, though, thyroid cancer is curable. I have to go out to the Kaiser Largo center to pick up my ultrasounds and take them with me to the hospital. His nurse will call me when the procedure has been authorized, then I call the hospital and make the appointment. In the mean time, we’re hoping to control the hypothyroidism, which is still way out of control, although I haven’t been on the new dosage long enough for them to determine if this dosage is effective (150 mcg.).
So, I’m still really nervous/anxious and still don’t know what I have. I do like the endo. doc, though, and have confidence that he’ll provide me with good treatment. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, MMPers–keep sending the good vibes for a bit longer, please!
Since I know you lot can’t resist a bit of cuteness, here are a couple of pics I managed to get of Prestwick. They’re a bit fuzzy because I had to take them from inside the house, as soon as I open the door he’s likely to make a run for it.
I think it might be a more appealing pic than Swampy in his gingham finery, but I could be wrong!
Hi and bye! I’m not caught up but I’ve gotta go give a friend a ride… and then I’m off and probably won’t be back till Monday! Happy weekend everyone!!
Heh. There is a subdivision near here called Prestwick (in another town).
Tarragon–my thoughts are with you. I’ve had hypothyroid for 17 years now–it does even out, eventually (of course, the condition of your neck innards might have something to do with your uneveness). Best of luck to you–let us know how it goes.
I did some homework. I haven’t started on my other 2 papers, yet. I kind of know what I want to do, but lack the ambition.
I need to write out a speech for a booktalk I’m doing Monday at 9.
I’d like to see Swampy in a pinafore.
I’ve spent the day sewing instead of doing laundry. I’ll do the laundry tomorrow, and…my Mum and Dad are going to buy us a washer and dryer as our having-a-baby-present! We’ll need a small, apartment-compatible no special plumbing set. Anyone got suggestions? I’ve never shopped for one before.
LiLi, my Oldtimer’s Disease is hitting me hard today, and I don’t remember if you’ve said anything about this… Do you know what kind of dangly bits TinyNinjaChef has?
sing-song voice: I found them. Pinafores, gingham, sweet dress sets, just for swampy. /sing-song voice. Look closely. The internet is a wonderful place, isn’t it?
Everyone must be starting their 4th of July week vacation early. It’s been even quieter than usual today.
What is it with you people and wantin’ me to dress in weird costumes? Y’all are all preverts!
Ok, the peas are all snapped/shelled and most of the green beans are snapped. I’ll have those done in a bit. I just stopped to rest my poor tired sore fingers. When I get the rest of the beans snapped I’m gonna wash the peas and beans and put 'em in quart freezer bags and (duh!) freeze ‘em. Butter bean shellin’ will commence tomorrow. My delicate hands will need to rest after all. Plus, gotta get supper done.
Herbs continued prayers and good thoughts headed your way from south Jawja.
Jah, that site was way too disturbing on way too many levels. Almost as disturbing as the mental image of **swampy ** in gingham and a bonnet…
tarra, hugs and good thoughts coming your way.
Yeah, I’m home early. I just didn’t want to hang around, so I left 2 hours early. And I took advantage of the free time to vacuum out my car - what a relief that is! It’s overcast and it drizzled a bit earlier. At least it’s cool. Our compressor fan is supposed to arrive on Monday, so with luck, they’ll be able to install it by that afternoon.
Tomorrow, **FCD ** and I will be going to Annapolis to look at a used mainsail. The one that came with our boat is so stretched out and worn, it’s not worth keeping. A new one would cost over $1k, but we might be able to get this used one for under $400, which would be great. And since we’ll be in Annapolis, **MamaTigs ** - where was that restaurant you told me about once and I promptly forgot? Unless they don’t serve lunch, in which case we won’t be going…
I’ve been trying to find a groomer to bathe and shave our canines, and no one can give me an appointment before the week of the 9th. I’ve got one scheduled for the 14th, since it’s a Saturday. Everyone else needs the dogs dropped off around 8AM. Kinda tough when I go to work at 6…
I went past 150 ages ago. At least the pharmacists are used to seeing me and my 300 mcg/day habit and lately, have been better at having the mega-dose pills in stock.
I’m not entirely convinced I still have a thyroid in there, actually.
