What makes a TV show SDMB-worthy?

A very few current TV series merit SDMB threads. Off the top of my head I can think of Buffy/Angel, Survivor, The West Wing, and Star Trek’s flavor of the moment. Did I miss any of the biggies? There are some others, but they don’t seem to have the staying power of these.

What do you think is the reason there are active threads about these shows, but not others? Any commonalities between them?

You missed THE biggie. Liking The Simpsons is the closest thing we have to an entrance exam here on the SDMB.

Sopranos, Band of Brothers, that undertaker one, (Six Feet Under?) have all got a lot of discussion here at one point or another. Then again, so did Who Wants to be a Princess?

I trust that you were not categorizing Babylon 5 as a Star Trek flavor.

You forgot “Love Cruise: The Maiden Voyage”

Hell if I know. My threads on Alias, 100 Centre Street, Mutant X and Wolf Lake have all sunk into the depths of obscurity.

Wolf Lake??? Fangs, but no fangs.

what’s “SDMB”

Some Dumb Mofo’ Board.
Or Straight Dope Message Board.

Remind me never to do that much coding in one message ever again, will ya?

Whatmove: If there were any justice on this board, you’d get banned for making a pun that bad.

I haven’t been here for that long, but does the Simpsons get a thread every week discussing the episode? The way it seems is that programs that are serial in nature have a better chance of receiving a weekly thread (Friends has been getting much love lately). It tends to be a combo of
“Can you believe what they did on…”
and
“What do you think they’ll do next on…”

Oh and I never had any desire to watch Wolf Lake. I’ll bet it really bites.

I would only point out that my post on another thread created this juxtiposition:

What makes a TV show SDMB-worthy?

Infomercials you watch over and over…
