What movie was this? (Scant clues)

This happened in the 70’s but that doesn’t mean the flick was from then.

I was watching the late late movie on TV. I think it was a light comedy/drama.

A guy is told by his boss he’s being canned. Another scene is the police coming to his house. He hands them the tie he used to strangle his boss. I think he ended up getting executed. He ends up in the after life, not sure if it’s heaven, hell, or purgatory. I think he meets a woman.

Then I fell asleep and never got to see the end. Or even the middle. Don’t know who was in it or anything else. Never saw it played ever again.

Have no idea why this came to mind today.

There are elements of Frenzy in the description. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the movie.

Aye: being fired and neckties used to commit murders is Frenzy but the protagonist isn’t executed and there’s no scenes in the afterlife.

I looked it up on Wiki. And while there are some elements it doesn’t sound like the same movie I am remembering.
