What movie would you like to see remade?

The original film was in colour though. The BBC remake wasn’t too bad - at least it was closer to the book.

My most vivid memory of the movie was the scene where the oldest brother, I think, ran into the nest of barbed wire and was riddled with
machine gun fire, as his younger brother looked on in horror.

I may have the characters relationship mixed up a bit (it’s been over 20
years, after all), but it was, to that point, the most graphic image I
had ever seen. I’m curious if I would have the same reaction to it now.

And I see, from following one of the IMDb links, that it is being
released on DVD in March 2004. How 'bout that?

Nothing on VHS listed.

Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Maybe next time, they can actually make a movie of H.F. Saint’s book.

The Killer Elite

Good Question. Here are a few ideas:

Charly. The story of a retarded man turned genius turned retarded, bitter man. This mid-1960s show starred Cliff Robertson in a singularly heavyhanded performance. Sure he won the Oscar, but history shows his winning was testament to his shameless marketing prowess, not to his talent.

Network. Another oldie. Frankly, I have qualms about remaking great films, but I’d love to see a whole new generation see this classic.

Game of Death. Bruce Lee’s vision never reached fruition, due to his tragic death. The movie would pit the world’s recognized martial arts masters (not the pot-bellied, knock-kneed Segal and his ilk) against one another.

Adam at 6 a.m. An oldie but good featuring Michael Douglas in one of his earliest performances. Theme: UC Berkeley) (?) professor chucks academia for small-city life, finds a small-town gal and, well, you’ll have to see the rest. Great commentary. Next time, opt for chocolate swirl.

I’ll think of more later…

An oft-posted question, my oft-posted reply is Fantasic Voyage

Neat. I didn’t realize there was a movie of it. I read a play of it (maybe it was the screenplay to the movie) in Read magazine in the early eighties in school.

I want Peter Jackson to remake Dune. You know, a version that is actually good.

Popeye. Not a musical next time (with the exception of Popeye singing his theme song  ).

I’ve only ever seen the 1974 version, and looking at IMDB, I see that there have been four versions in all, but please would somebody do The Great Gatsby well for once? It’s such a strong story with good characters and a lot of atmosphere, but the Robert Redford movie version is awful. Looking at reviews of the other versions, it looks like they were pretty bad too.

Ray Bradbury’s novel Something Wicked This Way Comes, directed by Todd Haynes, starring William H. Macy as the father.

(Hey, I loved the 1974 Great Gatsby. I thought it captured the book, one of my favorite novels, nearly perfectly.)

I would love to see a remake of “Logan’s Run”.

I would mention “The Stepford Wives”, but since there is already a remake in the works, I guess that moots that request. Though having the original plot of all the wives being Playboy Bunnies instead of June Cleavers is something I would’ve like to have seen.

Also I would love a proper version of the “Little House” saga and “101 Dalmations” to be made (with the latter the 90s movie did come close, but still left out important characters (who I loved in the book) like Perdita, the third adult Dalmatian who’s puppies Cruella stole). Also a version of “Annie” with the song “Thank You Mr Hoover” (it was a crime that neither version had that song in it).

Look for a copy of William Goldman’s Which Lie Did I Tell?, it’s gives some reasoning into why the film came out so badly. (Hint: the initials CC)

Damn, I knew I should have read further before posting

Oddly, Goldman also talks about that. Long story short - It was going to be Bunnies until the director cast his June Cleaver-esqe wife in the lead.

Another Goldman story, another screw up by the director.

Dear God I feel like a Goldman schill now.
How about a remake of Mystery Men?

I thought Perdita was the second Dalmatian, the one who hooks up with Pongo. Pongo and Perdita, right?

THE WICKER MAN following the novel, not the godawful proposed religious cop Nick Cage vs pagan priestess Angelina Jolie in N Carolina renake being discussed now.

Another vote for League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Can’t be too many remakes of Stoker’s Dracula for me. If you merged the Louis Jordan BBC version & the Coppola one, you might just have it right.

and Slaughterhouse Five- this time showing the Tralfamadorians & including Kilgore Trout

and get Nick Nolte to be Howard W Campbell Jr again! S

I’ve always thought The Princess Bride deserved a bigger budget, but I don’t see how they could possibly cast it any better.

Chicago

Also Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

But this time—animated!!! 2-D only, non-Disney, please!

In the book, Pongo was “married” to Misses - as in, “Misses Pongo,” but they always called her “Misses.” Because she had 15 puppies she was running out of milk, and the Dearlys found Perdita (a THIRD adult Dalmatian) on the side of the road. She was liver-spotted, and still had milk to give (since her puppies, as we find out later, were purchased by Cruella before they were weaned). The Dearlys use her as a wet-nurse for Pongo and Misses’ puppies. She stays behind with the Dearlys when Pongo and Misses run away to find their puppies.

Man, I read that book WAY too many times when I was little.
