I don’t have any children but my husband and I collect birth announcments with the most horrible names. (Or what we think are horrible names… .)
To be honest: I could well use some of the suggestions in this thread in my collection… . But then as I’m German some of these names may well just sound strange to me but are quite common in the US… . But not “Orgasmio”! That doesn’t just sound strange to my German ears!!! That IS strange!!
Mrs. O had decreed, long previous to our even meeting each other, that the Tzeroling was her first and final child with anyone. Moot point that it is, I’ve been kicking around several name combinations for quite a while now, and this is what I came up with.
For a boy: Theodore Benson. Middle names of both my grandfathers. To me, it just sounds really distinguished.
For a girl: Elisabeth Carolina (‘ee’, not ‘eye’) - paternal grandmother’s first name, Swedish great-grandmother’s middle name. Or Naomi Lillian - middle names of my great-grandmother and my maternal grandmother. Naomi was kind of a fortuitous discovery while researching the family tree - even my grandmother didn’t know her mom had a middle name.
Well, I’ve already taken the plunge and named a daughter Kathleen Marie (as now memorialized on my right arm).
Kathleen is a combination of my wife’s name and my mom’s name. I leave it to you to guess the combination point. Marie is a family name for both our grandmothers. How convenient!
As for boys I have three names myself as the first son. By family tradition my first son gets his own name, my name, my father name, and the last name. I’m thinking Jackson.
Another boy? Thomas Jonathan.
As for another girl? Who the hell knows? The one I’ve got is enough for me. I’m hoping boys are easier.
Since I’m currently pregnant, this is a big deal for us now. For a girl, we’re pretty much settled on Rachel Miriam, Rachel because we like it and Miriam for my grandmother. Boys names are more problematic. We know the middle name will be George for my husband’s grandfather. First names we like are Aaron, Daniel, Ethan, Jacob, Nathaniel–you know, good Old Testament names. We’re really stuck on Rachel, though, so I really hope this baby is a girl or we’ve got major adjustments to make.
For those who don’t realize that Zachary or Zachariah and Zebediah are all from the Bible. There are a lot of other names that are less common from the Bible also.
People I know “Never ask when I’m going to have a kid”. I don’t want one, and don’t need to hear the question. I can go home when your kids get me to the point of going nuts.
I have no problems with you wanting a child, or children.
My husband and I are both traditionalists, so our kids will probably have some fairly oldfashioned names. We’ve already decided on Katherine (Kate) for a girl, and any boy will have George for a middle name (tradition in Mr. Nightingale’s family). So far I’m thinking Jenna Katherine and Jackson George.
Well since I am pregnant I guess I need to have a couple names picked out in the next few months.
For a boy we have talked about a few names but Charles will definately be the middle name, after his father. Jonathan Charles is currently my favorite boy name.
Now for a girls name I have always liked Lauren Elizabeth. I almost named my 10 year old that and then changed it at the last minute. Some other girls names I like are:
Katie
Katelyn
Mia
Olivia
Emily
We probably won’t be absolutely sure until we actually see the baby for the first time.
My mother wanted to name me Merriwether Linguini. Yes, she’s a nut.
For my own kids. I like Ruth and Bria for girls. Haven’t quite decided on boys’ names. My hubby and I agree we like Scottish names best, so I’m thinking maybe Andrew or Kyle. (Hubby’s neice and nephew both have Scottish names with Gaelic spellings – Seanaigh (“shawna”) and Ruairidh (sort of like “rory”, but more like “roo-ree”) respectively. Since our kids will probably grow up in the States, we figure this is a bad idea.) Or maybe Dylan; that would sound good with our last name.
Good choice! That’s my name, except spelled differently. Mine’s Kerry Ann. Stick to the regular spelling of “Carrie”, though…life will be much easier for her.
Avraham Yosef Dovid (yes, three names!) is 7. Chaim Shmuel is 6. Tzivya Machla is 4.
(For the Hebrew-impared, the first two are boys and the youngest is a girl. Except for Machla, they are all fairly common Hebrew names).
Whenever my wife and I discuss names for kids, I always tease her with outrageous names (and I see I’m not the only one who does so). I usually come up with Warlberton for a boy and Willimehna for a girl. (Don’t ask me what they mean – I just found them in a baby name book one day!)
In real life, I wanted to give one of my kids a name in Hebrew that is the name of an animal. The reason for this is that my name in Hebrew is Zev (wolf) Ari (lion). My father’s name is Tzvi (deer) Dov (bear). I thought it would be cute to continue along. While there are several girls names available that fit the bill (Rachel – sheep, Devora – bee, Ya’el – mountain goat), there really aren’t any other common Jewish boy’s names available. (And before you ask, among Ashkenazic Jews, it is customary to only name children after dead relatives. My father, thank God, is still alive and well!).
