Coming up NEXT on FOX: When Shagging Game Show Hosts Attack Police Chases- IV

I know, I know - everybody is entitled to their opinion and when it comes to art, there is eternal debate as to whether there is a such a thing as an absolute beauty against which all art can be measured. I also know that this is a contrived, silly piece of reality programming.

Having said all of that, erislover you are simply incorrect. From a musician’s perspective, Kelly is a an amazing vocalist. Period. Done. Not up for debate. One may choose not to like her, or her delivery or use of her instrument, but the basic quality of her instrument is irrefutable. Justin - again, a truly wonderful instrument - he has a great range, tonality, etc. Do I like what he does with it? Not particularly - I am not a schmaltz/smooth R&B/Luther Vandross kind of guy, but he can sing in much more than a passable way.

Well, I am not refuting her vocal abilities. I am refuting her as a winner in a contest of idolatry.

I was thinking of you last night erislover when your girl Nikki was set free. I wonder how many people will stop watching the show because the person they wanted to win got voted off?

Does it make up for the number of people who start watching late in the game because of the drama of the final two or three episodes?

It will be truly fascinating to see which of these kids has a career of any kind, musical or not, in a year or two.

I vote for Kelly to have a really boring career putting out dull albums, for Justin to have burned to a crisp with teenyboppers and be long gone (even though he slays me and I would jump his bones SO fast) , and for Nikki to have been featured in Playboy and be showing up all over the place.

Oh, and Tamyra will go nowhere. She is just much too generic. The fact that she was voted off tells the story.

It will also be interesting to see the reaction Kelly and Justin get at the VMA tonight.

Actually, though my Darling Nikki (oh, Prince!) is off the air, I will probably attempt to watch the show anyway. I would rather Justin lose than Kelly, though my voting will have nothing to do with it.

But… I did see the look of almost relief when Nikki got the news. She’s known it was coming for some time, as did we all. Randy: “That was so Kareoke dude” LOL It sure was. Still, she’s the gal I’ve liked the most.

I… I’d rather Tamyra won than that Kelly, though. Kelly reminds me of someone sickeningly perky and nice. Beautiful? I think she is. Great voice? Undoubtedly. But… no idolatry here, and so she could never get my actual support except in a vacuous sense (as she has it now… damn that Justin!).

No more is my chant “Go Nikki!” but “Die Sideshow Justin!”

Well, I was never a Nikki fan (No! Really?) but man, I felt for her last night. First the recap of the judges comments, “Well, Nikki, Randy said you sucked and then you sucked, Paula said she hates you and not to call her anymore, and Simon said your first song was an insult to all life forms everywhere and your second song made him want to feast on the entrails of your second born” and she did a good job of putting on a brave face but it had to sting when all the comments for Kelly and Justin were like, “Oh! Everyone in the world wants to marry you and have your children!” Then the hosts try to goad Randy and Paula into saying Nikki should leave while the camera comes in for a tight shot of the poor girl, who sounds like she’s about to hyperventilate, THEN Simon flat out says she should go! Of course they drag out the axe-chopping for maximum tension. It’s like, hey, Fox, we all know she’s the one, can you get on with it? Are you trying to make her snap? And all Simon can say to her after all these weeks is that he can’t believe she made it this far (well, neither can I) and that, oh yeah, Kelly RAWKS? The whole thing was most unpleasant. Her maw looked very displeased.

My feeling in the past on the contestants getting ripped is that they volunteered to be on and critiqued, so anything goes. I had a lot of sympathy for Nikki last night, though. I was hoping she’d get kicked off, but man, why didn’t they just tie her to a post in the middle of the stage and start throwing rocks at her? It might have been kinder. Simon saying the vote would only be right if Nikki got kicked off was just a little harsh. I’m not saying it wasn’t completely true, but his opinion on her talent vs. the other two was already well known. Why trash the poor girl again when the vote had already been made? The long closeup of her face as she tried not to cry after his comment was a nice touch, as well. Then, while trying to point out how she should be proud of making it so far, he basically says it was a miracle she wasn’t voted off long ago.

The TV Guide blurb for next week says that at least one of the songs they are going to perform aren’t covers but new songs written for them. Should be interesting. I have no idea how they are going to drag out the results show for two hours, but I predict the themes of “Ford” and “Focus” will be heavily featured.

That came out wrong. Clean up, Euty.

Corrected post follows:

As well as “Coca” and “Cola.”

I think they are doing an original song, the same one. One they choose, and then another one picked by the judges maybe?

6 songs over 2 hours. I bet more time is alotted to Ford Focus commecials than the music from the 2. Something tells me there will be lots 'o clips from the past shows too, oh joy.

Hey Myrnalene, you should write for this show, it would be far more interesting.

And at this point, what is the point? They are both going to have careers no matter who comes out on top. I sort of appreciated Kelly’s attitude of “Alright already, can we get on with our careers now?”

Does the winner get a million dollars. or is it a million dollar “contrat” with much of the money going to production, videos, promotion, whatever?

Oh, thanks! I think…

For one thing, the winner gets to have his or her version of the sure-to-be-hit single released, plus a full CD. The other has to wait until after the winner releases his/her CD before s/he can release his/her own.

That said, in England Simon was unhappy with the winner, and he’s quoted in TV Guide Online as saying something along the lines of so he went out and made a BIGGER star of the second-place contestant.

They have called it a contract worth at least a million dollars.
