It’s getting harder and harder to fill an AMERICAN IDOL hour, isn’t it? And what have they done with the real Simon? This goody-two-shoes Simon clone just doesn’t cut it! What happened to the venom, the vitriol? I miss it!
IMHO, Justin was the star of last night. Kelly was LOUD!!! (And the stripes don’t add anything to the straight, straight “do.”) Nikki was. . . well, what should I say?. . . Nikki (And, honey, you don’t sound ANYTHING like Stevie Nicks!).
I will be struck dumb if that wasn’t Nikki’s last hurrah! We’ll find out tonight. Remember, show time is 30 minutes earlier than normal for a Wednesday Results Show. (Could you have missed that info last night???)
I gotta agree with you about Justin. He did very well last night. Kelly was good too but I didn’t know the first song. I was wondering if the judges were going to pick songs that they thought they could sing well or songs that would challenge them.
With any luck we will be saying goodbye to Nikki tonight and it will come down to Kelly and Justin. Kelly is a much better singer than Justin, but Justin has the American Idol image more so than Kelly. Should be interesting.
I can’t believe they are going to drag the show tonight out for an hour! I hate those two hosts and I can only imagine how bad they will be tonight. UGH!
A freakin’ hour long show. And you know what? I’m one of the jackasses that will be watching. I can’t help myself. I still have a crush on Kelly but I wasn’t too fond of the high-lights. Eh.
Justin did very well last night but I still can’t stand the sight of him. I stand by my thread weeks ago that proclaimed him Sideshow Bob. I want to hold him down and shave his head like I’m shearing a sheep.
Nikki, Nikki, Nikki…I had the pleasure of recording that song with Ms. Mariah Carey…kiss my feet! I think she did pretty well for herself last night. But may I be perfectly blunt? Every time I see her on television, I think to myself, “The trailer park is a’pullin’ for Nikki tonight!”
I’m still cheering on Kelly. Justin makes me ill and Nikki…well, she just isn’t that great of a singer.

Did anyone else really love Kelly’s first song last night? I thought it was one of her best performances by far. She really got into it (even took her right hand off her tummy!!!) I thought she sounded great and performed it wonderfully… so how come the judges all panned her song choice?
Since my girl Tamyra is out, Kelly is my choice to win; she indeed possesses an amazing voice. Justin’s a pretty good singer, but he is outclassed by Kelly’s powerhouse of a voice. and Nikki is way, way out of her league now. She needs to get voted off the island, pronto.
Justin’s 'fro still makes me think he should be working for Krusty the Clown, but that pic with the short hair and the muscular neck made me stand up and take notice! (Justin, go back to the gym!)
Justin’s voice sounded a little thin last night. I couldn’t believe the judges gave him “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.” I’d like to ski down those cheekbones, though. You can tell Nikki knows she doesn’t deserve to be there; she’ll be sporting that look of quiet resignation again during the voting results tonight. I really hope Kelly pulls this off. If not, though, I don’t feel too bad because I’m pretty certain she’ll be getting some kind of management deal, just like Tamyra.

I am really, really tired of Nikki’s voice. She actually sounds OK on the lower notes, but when she belts out the RockStar! power ones she turns into Howly McFlattica. For example, she sang the verses to “Black Velvet” passably last night but when she hit the chorus I felt a small tricke of blood seep from my ear. Of course I hope she leaves tonight but I will be making no more assumptions after last week.
Justin sounded great on his first song but you can’t escape THE KELLY! She rocks the house, man!

I think the show has progressively gotten more boring as the weeks go by. The singing and performances haven’t held up. I think they were all better a few weeks ago. Now that we were down to 3, now two people, shouldn’t the competition and peformances be the best? Shessh, we all know who’s gonna win. The last Kelly song she was very good, though she has always been very even in her performances. Like Kelly said, “We just want to get on with our careers…”
I heard this morning that there is a chance you will have the joy of Will Young who won the UK Pop Idol to help fill the 2 hours.

Yojimbo - Simon has had his 15 minutes as That Nasty British Guy ™, Judge Dread, etc…with a lot of play on the cliche UK upper-class dismissive approach. Having said that, people tend to respect his opinion and him for telling it straight - they just wish he wasn’t as mean in his delivery as he has been.
My wife is addicted to this show, hence we watch. The shows themselves are pretty darn bad, but the drama of the contest is reasonably engaging. Last night was the first “results” show I had seen - could it have been worse? The blond host-guy trying to get on the set? The contestants having to re-sing the same song they sang the night before? “Love will keep us flippin’ together”. Can you say “ugh”?
In our house, we couldn’t wait for Nikki to be voted off - my wife still holds a torch for Tamyra’s talent. Our basic view is that Kelly is by FAR the better singer - an A+, but that Justin is solid and styled - good technical chops - and more of an entertainer/charmer. In fact - it comes down to:
Kelly’s Vocals/entertainment = A+/B
Justin’s Vocals/Entertainment = A/A-
So - what matters more? Kelly’s absolute raw talent or Justin’s more rounded overall package ([Beavis] Heh heh - I said package - heh heh [/Beavis])
I would vote for Kelly, but think Justin could have a longer career…

I don’t know if I can bring myself to watch two hours of this show next week, unless the hosts suffer two seperate misfortunes before then and are unable to make it.
If these guys aren’t the undisputed kings of the obvious joke, I don’t know who is. I wanted to slap the blond one last night after Paula told one of the kids their performance was fuh-nominal. He made a quick comment about it right after she said it, then like a minute later he needed to comment again, just in case someone, somewhere out there didn’t catch it the first time. I kept waiting to hear:
“I thought you were going to say something else. You know, cause you said fuh. Like the F-word, you know? I thought you were going to say the F-word. I hate Simon!”
And besides, isn’t this a family show? Could these guys come up with a few more inappropriate comments to pack in there? I’m too tired to think of any specific examples, but I’m sure you know what I’m on about.
OK, I’m not struck dumb. Poor out-of-her-depth Nikki has been dismissed, sent back to Karaoke-land. (Huge sigh of relief!)
The Ryan and Brian show REALLY sucked last night, especially the Ford Focus bit with Ryan trying to get onto the FOX lot. Who is writing this crud??? Whoever it is should not be allowed at a keyboard. . . ever again!
I’m still in Justin’s corner. I agree with WordMan about his being the whole entertainment package. The world already has too many loud lady belters (Whitney, Celine, Mariah. . . to mention the unholy triumverate). We need an exotic Sideshow Bob type guy to mesmerize our little girls. (What ever happened to Ricky Martin, by the way?)
Now, as for a two hour epic next Tuesday. . . Ay-yi-yi-yi-yi! I don’t think I can deal with that. . . but there probably won’t be much else on the tube to watch. Maybe I’ll tape it and watch in fast forward.
And I’m definitely gonna miss the Wednesday show. (I have theater tickets!) Oh, well. I’m just guessing the winner’s name will be in the newspaper on Thursday. No problem-o.
The wife is real into this show, and I’ve seen it a fews times. It definately has its entertainment value, although a bit long on the commercials. All I can say is this: Kelly is A M A Z I N G with her talent. Not just her raw talent with vocals, but she really lays it out there emotionally. I’m reminded of the line from Bob Segars “Turn the Page”: …and every ounce of energy, you try to give away… I get chills listening to her sing, it is quite impressive. I’d agree with the above comments that Justin probably has more of an edge with the X factor and style, but Kelly is AMAZING. I’m curious what type of songs she’ll do on her CD after the show is done? Might even pick it up.
I do think Justin has a decent voice - but I really can’t stand his head tilt, smile, point and wink routine. And I just don’t think he is attractive…but, whatever floats your boat. Now Pierce Brosnan…now that’s a hunk of man. If I was into that sort of thing.

I agree with your analysis, WordMan. I don’t think I’d buy a CD by either Kelly or Justin; well, maybe Kelly over Justin, but I think Kelly’s the much better, polished singer. I like watching her throat vibrate when she sings. Justin’s not as consistent hitting the notes but man, he can work that crowd. I guess that’s what singing at bar mitzvahs and weddings teaches ya.
I’m also enjoying the major sexual tension going on between Simon and Paula. I bet they shag like jackrabbits on amphetamines.
Kelly is a good vocalist. Would I buy her album? No. Justin is a passable vocalist (he doesn’t have what i like in male vocalists). Would I buy his album? No.
