what? No Castle thread? 5/7

I’m surprised no one’s commented on the season finale yet.

Nice username, thread combo.

I kind of knew it was building up to this. I am so over the Beckett’s Mother stories, but I’m glad the relationship is at this point at last.

Apparently Castle hasn’t been officially renewed yet. I expect it will, it’s still very popular, but it would be a bugger if it wasn’t.

I like the fact the started the finale with a cliffhanger instead of ending it with one.

Well, I don’t have anything on the bestseller list…

If it is, it will be interesting to see how Castle and a de-badged Beckett can manage to beat the big conspiracy.

The romance part worked well. The rest, not so much. Did Castle’s ex-wife show up at daughter’s graduation? Why didn’t evil guy just kill Beckett? Why does unnamed evil group care about her so much? The more convoluted this all gets, the less sense it makes. Please writers, wrap this up at start of new season and really finally be done with it. Because I can see the show working with the two leads being a Nick and Nora Charles,. staying in touch with their two buddies (the dumb one & the smart one) back at the station.

Yeah, this whole ep was too sappy. Didn’t really work for me. And, I just don’t know that Castle/debadged Beckett will work without the sexual tension and innuendo.

I’ll give next season a shot if it gets renewed, but I don’t know how it can last.

You know what I’ve always wished would happen in one of those sexual tension shows?
That the couple in question would have sex…and then decide that they don’t want a relationship. They could stay friends with benefits, have relationships with other people…but not be a couple anymore. It happens all the time in real life.

I think the romance worked; the scene where she showed up at his apartment was excellent in all respects. I agree that Castle and Beckett could be a modern Nick and Nora Charles.

While I would like the idea of Castle and Beckett teaming up as upper-crust PIs, I doubt the show-runners would take such a risk. No, I am sure that when (if) next season starts, the first order of business will be to get Beckett back on the force, followed closely by some stupid argument that will cause friction between her and Castle.
It’s very rare that shows are given a complete scenario-change and usually it signals desperation or is done when a regular leaves.

Rik - agreeing with you that’s the most likely scenario. But wouldn’t it be refreshing to see such a change-up (to the team of upper-crust P.I.s). Shows run out of steam. It would be great to be shake-ups at older shows. Course, it’s not my money they’re playing with.

I’m at a loss - it felt mostly like a filler episode with no other purpose than to set up the cliffhanger.

I like that Becket and Castle were finally openly honest with each other - I’m disappointed that Becket and Castle didn’t seize the opportunity to turn Castle’s ‘inside man’ into the way to resolve the case.

We don’t need yet another season of ‘becket in danger from the shadow corps’ - been there, done that - we need this to move on …

we also need to get rid of the stupid captain wannabee - this season has been remarkedly better in episodes she’s not in.

I wanted to see some skin, dammit!

I like that they are hooked up and all, but I want them to get back to what makes the show work. In recent episodes, they seem to have changed the Castle character. Making him too serious…and a little bit of a wussy boy. That’s not who he is. He’s a wise-cracking, arrogant playboy. Even if he is in love with Beckett, he should still be wise-cracking and arrogant!

I thought it was a very good episode. I liked how we got some actual dissension in the Ryan-Esposito relationship. It seems to me like they’ve never really had any kind of disagreement that rises above petty bickering.

I think it would kinda hard for Esposito to justify staying mad at Ryan. If Ryan had not told the Captain, Beckett would be dead.

Most of the episode was sub-par, but the last few minutes were super hot.

And I too felt for Ryan. He did the right thing, no matter what it cost anyone career-wise.

But since there’s a conspiracy of crooked cops, it could also be the case that when Ryan told the Captain and she immediately ordered a backup team to the Hotel Rosslyn, someone got wind and tipped off the suspect, allowing him to get the jump on Beckett and Esposito.

Oh, yeah, me too. In fact, I’m tired of the entire idea of “lead haunted by tragedy in past.”

At this point I’m rooting for Red John to off the meantalist, too.

I’m not going to argue that Ryan did anything wrong. In fact, I really find it kind of refreshing he was even willing to consider the possibility that calling in the cavalry might be the right move; most of the time, shows that feature an Us Against The World team act as though going through proper channels is worse than being boiled in oil. But I think Esposito might feel that, had Ryan been along for the ride, the bad guy wouldn’t have gotten the drop on them.

I was wondering that same point. They’ve established Alexis’ mother Meredith is alive (I believe she lives in California). She was played by Darby Stanchfield, who’s currently a regular on Scandal so the network could have used her appearance as a cross-promotion.

I think he didn’t want to kill her because at that point he hadn’t contacted “Mr Smith” and secured the evidence Smith had.

Although that raises the question of why he left her hanging off the side of the building. If she had fallen, Smith would have presumably assumed she had been murdered and released the evidence.

They had a serious fight during last season’s finale. They were following the leads of the case and Ryan realized that the evidence showed Montgomery was involved. When he said this, Esposito refused to believe it at first and punched Ryan.
