What??? No MMP???

Oh no, a couple of posts in and I’ve committed a faux pas! Thanks for the heads-up Nava

FCM, may I interest you in this box of exquisite Charbonnel et Walker* champagne truffles?

In caveland ‘tis 44 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 58, as well. In a bit I shall purtify and then head back to da cave. Mom and Frank are headin’ out this afternoon to the condo of one of his son’s in Boca Raton, Flahrduh. This son lives in waaaaaaay nawth Jawja. He and his wife will pick mom and Frank up and southward they shall head. I say good for them.

Ok, that’s all the news I got. Need to get motivated to get goin’. See y’all when I’m back at da cave!

Happy Thursday/Boxing Day Y’all!

Robbio I believe that it is on me. I was being clever as we have a Bobbio and Doggio. Maybe we can appeal to the Senior Mumpers and get a verdict.

Happy Boxing Day, for those that celebrate.

I am up too early but I shall roll with it. Here in Texas it is shorts weather, after lunch with Mom I think I shall go for a Motorcycle ride.

Jim

Why do I have to work today? Whine whine whine.

I hope everybody had a fantastical day, be it Christmas or Wednesday. I had my best birthday in a long time (I didn’t do anything special, it’s just the first year I haven’t burst into tears for no reason in almost a decade  ). And I got presents and ate too much and stayed up too damn late last night and all my stomach muscles hurt from laughing.

And the celebrations are not over yet, because I’ve got two more parties this weekend–one at my house, so I have to clean n’ stuff. But not tonight. Tonight I’m going to do my nails and watch Doctor Who before I get spoiled.

Somebody explain to me what Boxing Day is for. Not so much what it’s for, but why the hell it’s called Boxing Day. That’s never been explained to my satisfaction, but I like to imagine a bunch of old stuffy Englishmen punching each other in the face.

They exchange gifts on the day after Christmas, these gifts are wrapped and boxed up. IOW they are exchanging boxed gifts, hence “Boxing”.

What happens at the Pub later is incidental

Jim

I’m still ow-y but not as much.

blurf

I definitely like my explanation better.

Jim

**Nava **- those who would steal my chocolates are immediately relegated to The List!!! And here I thought you were my friend. :stuck_out_tongue: Quality control indeed… <must remember that>

**Robbio **- I may consult with you later in the year about fine English chocolates. In August/September, my mother and I will be taking a cruise around the British Isles, and while I’m not interested in amassing souvenirs, I believe amassing fine chocolates doesn’t count.

I got a grand total of about 3 hours of sleep - ugh. So I’ve made an executive decision and a reservation - I’m leaving this afternoon and spending the night near Savannah. That way, I can get a quiet night’s sleep and hit the road early tomorrow, getting home at a less ungodly hour. So yay! And yay for LaQuinta being pet-friendly.

Meanwhile, today will include a stop at the ABC store that has a big “Wine Country” sign out front. It’s overcast and dreary - so much for sunny Florida.

Happy Thursday to all!!

Up, and caffeinated. Enjoying my coffee in my new TARDIS mug(it is quite large on the inside).

Drae, I like your explanation.

It’s when boxed gifts were traditionally given to people who were not part of the household, specially to people who worked for the household - but not on Christmas, therefore could not receive their gifts on that day. You know: the milkman, postman, those servants who did not live in the house, etc.

FCM, think of me as your own personal poison-tester. I’m making sure you only get the bestest chocolates, cos I’m nice, damnit! I worked in QC for about 10 years, now I’ve been explaining to people how to report their QC work into a business database for about as many - it makes for one helluva excuse.

I could not believe that in a huge liquor store with a bazillion bottles of wine, they carried exactly 2 from Florida wineries… So instead, I picked up 4 bottles with interesting names.

I’ll be leaving here at 4, which should get me to the hotel before 8. I can crash early and get up early and get home early. That’s the plan. Frankly, I’m ready to leave now - I’m sick of watching old movies and sitting around doing nothing. I’m tired of hearing the same stories over and over. I just want to be back in my own space.

Bah humbug.

Happy Thorsday!

I’m done watching piddle pup who sure lived up to her name these past two days. I forgot to plug their plug in back in but it was making me nauseous.
I used a good number of paper towels trying to mop up a shadow though.
Now I’m in for the day and see no good reason to go out into the cold.

It’s cold out, not as cold as yesterday but it’s cold.

The hospital bills just keep rolling in. I’m a little concerned because one just came marked second notice and I never got the first notice. The last thing I want is some bill showing up on my credit report now. My last paycheck it tomorrow and I guess I can file my taxes, or at least calculate them and print out the paperwork for the credit union and the mortgage company.
I’ve been keeping an eye out on the housing market and sadly one of the houses I saw that I really liked but was a short sale just sold. However there are always new ones going on the market.

I got some nice chocolates for Christmas and pretty sweater, so I am happy with my haul. Sah-son got a lot of Reese’s Cups, he’s as hard to buy for as I am.

Happy Belated Birthday,** Drae!**

I haven’t been around these last few days because I’ve been super busy, but I finally have a moment to myself and am making good use of it by doing NOT ONE DAMN THING.

I have to say, I think I enjoyed this Christmas more than I have any other in my adulthood.

Christmas Eve was just quiet and low key, with myself, my husband, the kids, and my son-in-law. We had dinner, opened the usual Christmas Eve present, played a game, watched a movie, and just relaxed. It was so nice. We had lots of laughs and really enjoyed it.

Christmas Day, we opened the rest of the presents, relaxed for a bit, and then started Christmas Day meal prep. I put the 15 pound prime rib roast in at noon and it was done by 2:45. My oven definitely runs hot, but the roast turned out to perfection. Nice and rare where it should have been rare, with the ends all caramelized and more well done. Christmas Day consisted of the same group as Christmas Eve, plus my mother. She showed up 1:00.

We exchanged gifts with her, and watched a Christmas movie and chatted (while I continued cooking). We ate, and then I cleaned up the kitchen. My husband even helped!

The entire meal was perfect, and by six-thirty or so, everyone had gone home. I plopped myself down on the loveseat after that and didn’t move.

Today all I’m going to do is shower, and put on the comfy lounging clothes my son bought me for Christmas. I’ll warm up some Christmas leftovers for dinner.

I’m going to make the stock for my prime rib soup tomorrow and this weekend we shall enjoy my favorite part of Christmas dinner; the prime rib soup!

Taters, I’ll be happy to take excess prime rib soup off your hands… because I care!!

About 90 minutes till I hit the road - I’m hoping to miss the worst of the Jacksonville traffic - we shall see. And I’ll check in from home tomorrow.

Spent most of Christmas mostly offline. Only fell asleep on the couch once.

Today it’s quiet at work. Very, very quiet. It got cold enough to freeze overnight, but was above freezing long enough that the frost was dripping from the sides of the car. Windshield still had a little, but the windshield wipers shoved most of it off.

Belated birthday wishes to Drae. Hope everyone had a merry.

Consider me your chocolatier anglais.

Hmmmm. Methinks this calls for some field research.

Howdy from da cave! Actually I’ve been home a while and takin’ care of some domesticated type stuff like laundry and gettin’ dindin prepped. In a bit I shall begin bakin’ death chikin. I got me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for death chikin. Plus, OYKW should be here around sixish so there’ll be a nice hot dindin waitin’ for him. There shall also be steamed asparagus, steamed carrots and rolls. I feel just like June Cleaver!

Ok, gonna go surf around a bit.

Laterz!

Finally the plumber is coming and we should have hot water in the kitchen again.
Hopefully dry floors as well. The water is leaking under the floor and as you walk across it squishes up between the boards.

Tomorrow I get to walk hell pup and I have to sit with piddle pup again.
I keep telling people to find another sitter. My bonding and insurance run out in February and I’m not renewing. Hopefully, I’ll be moved by then anyway.
