I loves me some Taco Bell. I can safely eat a couple plain Tacos. Not the fancy stuff. Cheap. The price has increased but not enough to quell my latest fetish for them.
My dialysis schedule has changed. I’ve had a misery of a time adjusting to this.
Yesterday I eat 3. No sour cream. And a plain tea. No sugar.
My glucose shot up in a short time. Causing Ivy to lose her shit.
We got it under control pretty quickly.
But, she said “Maybe, no more Tacos!”
Nope nope nope. I will not accept this latest restriction. (plus I need to see if the lady counter person has her baby or twins which looks entirely possible)
Maybe.
Not sure I’m willing to die because of Taco bell. I could eat corn dogs from Sonic. I like those as much.
I wonder if Taco bell changed the ingredients? The assholes. Don’t they know I rely on their crap junk food?
Beck, are you getting soft shell or hard? You should check to see the simple carb load for the different types of shell. Tell Ivy you can still have tacos, but maybe only two. Or maybe you have to switch to homemade.
I had to give up Taco Bell a few years ago. Even a plain Taco is too spicy. I really miss the beef and bean burrito.
I make Tacos at home with hamburger, salt, and a little garlic powder. I can’t use the McCormick Taco seasoning. But, they are selling a Mild version that I want to try.
I’m trying hard to avoid a total bland diet. That would be miserable.
Maybe the problem is getting them from Taco Bell instead of making them yourself. That way, you can skimp on all the stuff that affect your glucose levels and include as much other stuff as you want, potentially making it a salad instead. My homemade tacos with the same ingredients, only freshly made, are so much better than fast food tacos that I can’t stand the latter any more.
I think I got food at a TB once, maybe twice. At least 20 years ago. We have a different fast food chain out here that is slightly less pervasive but why fuck with TB when our chain is so much less bad.
OP said no homemade. OK, that leaves you with no options. I’ll leave this here, do with it what you will.
1 tablespoon chili powder
1-1/2 tablespoon cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon oregano
Use a couple, three tablespoons per pound of ground beef, toast the crunchy shells in the oven a little bit, add your chopped lettuce and cheddar, and you’re not doing bad. Does your local grocery stock bottles of Taco Bell hot sauce?
Are those still two for a buck? In Davis, CA, those used to be what folks got when the bars closed. Of course it was also the only drive-through downtown where the bars were at the time.
There was an expose awhile ago that reported that the meat in the tacos weren’t pure beef. If I remember correctly, the exposers were amazed that no one buying those tacos were surprised or cared. When you want cheap crap, you want cheap crap.
Apparently there’s a real trick (not just a wives’ tale) where drinking lemon juice (or some vinegar) mixed with water just before eating can help flatted the glucose spikes. Obviously talk with your medical people, but it might be something worth looking into to see if you can have that one food.
I just had Taco Bell earlier today. Mexican pizza and two crunchy tacos, all of it drowning in Hot and Fire sauce. A bit cool today for the frozen Baja Blast so I skipped that today.
I had Tuesday tacos for dinner. Three of 'em. I’m diabetic too, but not as bad as dear Beck.
My tacos are made on Bibb lettuce leaves. No tortillas anywhere. It lacks crunch, but the rest of the experience is still darn good. And extra messy which is a bonus: any meal where the juice is running off your elbows is a satisfying meal.
Screw Taco Bell! Del Taco 4evah! Especially their inferno sauce. Now if only these savages here in AR would get one…we just got a Chipotle like 6 months ago. And they still smoke in bars here. God damn savages.
