What pisses me off, 5 years later

I’ve got better.

I know that Michael Moore’s credibility suffers a bit around here, but he’s never been seriously accused of faking news footage. That Bush quote appears verbatim in F9/11. The proof is at your local video store. If you need a chapter number, I can get you one tonight.

No you don’t. You still only have your memory, which can be no more relied upon than Giraffe’s or anyone else’s.

I highly doubt that.

Yes, by all means. Please provide specific evidence other than “my word is my cite.”

Why the hell are people so vehement about defending this lie, when the truth is bad enough as it stands?!?!

Jesus!

Actually, I have a DVD. I own the DVD. I’ve seen it many times. I’ll watch it again tonight to provide the specific chapter where it is. And if you have a Netflix account, you can see it too. I’ve told you where the proof is. I’ve told you how you can check it out for yourself.

Please look at the evidence I have provided without dismissing me out of hand.

And what evidence is that? “I’m firmly of the belief I saw it in this movie” is not evidence. It’s opinion.

Go watch it again, and come back and tell us when in the movie you saw it. Even better, let us know the when and where of Bush saying it.

Mea culpa. I did remember it wrong.

From this transcript, about 40% of the way down: “Terror is bigger than one person. And he’s a person who’s now been marginalized. So I don’t know where he is. I just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you.” (I reformatted the text, because that transcript was like some strange haiku.)

Different words, exact same sentiment.

No time or place was given. It looked like a press conference, but I might be remembering that wrong as well.

I stand corrected on my misquote. But as to that comment – are you joking? What sort of evidence would you accept? Would a video of the event suffice? Gee, too bad we don’t have one. When oh when will God invent video stores?

I’d accept “It’s in Farenheit 9/11, just after scene.”

I’d accept “It’s in Farenheit 9/11, Chapter , [y] minutes in.”

I’d accept “It’s in Farenheit 9/11, taking an excerpt from Bush’s press conference of [x date].”

I’ll get you the first two, in addition to my own transcript.

No need - I’ll accept your previous cite for the modified quotation.

I’m going to do it anyway, provided I have time. What I posted doesn’t quite gybe with what others have been citing. I’m now curious as to the exact wording of the quote.

FWIW, on Google Groups, that “I don’t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don’t care. It’s not that important. It’s not our priority” first appears in a posting on April 10, 2002.

While it doesn’t give any attribution, the supposed quote existed in someone’s mind that early.

Actually, no, I didn’t. But now I see that it was taken aout of context from one of his press conferences, thus I herebye retract it.

Unlike BushCo., I need not spin the facts to be correct.

Happy?

BTW, John, since I’ve answered your request, I’m sure you won’t mind doing likewise and responding to this comment of mine here

Got it. Chapter 11, 0:48:19 into the movie.

Not that anyone cares anymore, but I thought I’d follow up. And yes, it was that same “Terror is bigger than one person” quote.

According to a post at Free Republic, he said it. Don’t know how accurate this is.

[/quote]
Williams, in an attempt to "bring it into it’s proper context, simply played the video tape of the Bush pc that contained the following text…

I don’t know where he is. I – I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.

That was it…no more.

It’s about halfway down
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1244536/posts

Just going from what I read at the New Republic messageboard, which is pro-Bush to say the least, no one there is disputing that he said it.

From what I’m reading there, and I have no idea if it’s true, he didn’t say that in the speech but in a remark to a follow up question by Brian Williams. One of the posters called it ‘a slip of the tongue’.

So, can we all agree that the original quote, offered by RedFury, which was

NEVER EXISTED. Or at least no print/video evidence exists.

I’ve searched transcripts offered in the Washington Post and other papers the day after the March 13, 2002 press conference, and there is no such quote.

I don’t know about that. He didn’t say it in the speech. People seem to be discussing what he actually said a couple days later.

One person there posted that he did say that and another person said he said “I don’t know where he is. I – I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.”

I found a link for the clip, but it’s not working. If somone could find a transcript of clip of the interview with Williams, that’s apparently where he made the remark that’s been quoted/misquoted, I don’t know which.

Google throws a lot of hits back for

but none have any actual verification of it.

John Mace was correct from what I can see. It’s a bad quote. Without verification. This message board covers a lot of ground from bullshit cat threads to some of the most intelligent argument I’ve ever read but at it’s heart it should be about facts and truth.

A lot of why I don’t like most politicians is because of the intentional lying they all do. We should know better. As I’ve said, I’d like nothing more than to be able to see those word put in the bastards mouth. He doesn’t seem to have said those actual words however.

Let’s just move on and deal with what the fuck actually said.

It wasn’t taken out of context, it was made up. But yes, I’m happy. see:

Done.
