I know that Michael Moore’s credibility suffers a bit around here, but he’s never been seriously accused of faking news footage. That Bush quote appears verbatim in F9/11. The proof is at your local video store. If you need a chapter number, I can get you one tonight.
Actually, I have a DVD. I own the DVD. I’ve seen it many times. I’ll watch it again tonight to provide the specific chapter where it is. And if you have a Netflix account, you can see it too. I’ve told you where the proof is. I’ve told you how you can check it out for yourself.
Please look at the evidence I have provided without dismissing me out of hand.
From this transcript, about 40% of the way down: “Terror is bigger than one person. And he’s a person who’s now been marginalized. So I don’t know where he is. I just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you.” (I reformatted the text, because that transcript was like some strange haiku.)
Different words, exact same sentiment.
No time or place was given. It looked like a press conference, but I might be remembering that wrong as well.
I stand corrected on my misquote. But as to that comment – are you joking? What sort of evidence would you accept? Would a video of the event suffice? Gee, too bad we don’t have one. When oh when will God invent video stores?
I’m going to do it anyway, provided I have time. What I posted doesn’t quite gybe with what others have been citing. I’m now curious as to the exact wording of the quote.
FWIW, on Google Groups, that “I don’t know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don’t care. It’s not that important. It’s not our priority” first appears in a posting on April 10, 2002.
While it doesn’t give any attribution, the supposed quote existed in someone’s mind that early.
Just going from what I read at the New Republic messageboard, which is pro-Bush to say the least, no one there is disputing that he said it.
From what I’m reading there, and I have no idea if it’s true, he didn’t say that in the speech but in a remark to a follow up question by Brian Williams. One of the posters called it ‘a slip of the tongue’.
So, can we all agree that the original quote, offered by RedFury, which was
NEVER EXISTED. Or at least no print/video evidence exists.
I’ve searched transcripts offered in the Washington Post and other papers the day after the March 13, 2002 press conference, and there is no such quote.
I don’t know about that. He didn’t say it in the speech. People seem to be discussing what he actually said a couple days later.
One person there posted that he did say that and another person said he said “I don’t know where he is. I – I’ll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him.”
I found a link for the clip, but it’s not working. If somone could find a transcript of clip of the interview with Williams, that’s apparently where he made the remark that’s been quoted/misquoted, I don’t know which.
John Mace was correct from what I can see. It’s a bad quote. Without verification. This message board covers a lot of ground from bullshit cat threads to some of the most intelligent argument I’ve ever read but at it’s heart it should be about facts and truth.
A lot of why I don’t like most politicians is because of the intentional lying they all do. We should know better. As I’ve said, I’d like nothing more than to be able to see those word put in the bastards mouth. He doesn’t seem to have said those actual words however.
Let’s just move on and deal with what the fuck actually said.
