I have a large collection of files (small ones .jpg and .bmp mostly) which I am in the process of organizing in filtering out dupes.
during this process I have noticed there is no regular namig scheme to any of them and i would like to rectify this problem, but we are talking about 3 gig of images averaging 100k apiece and I don’t plan on living that long. So my question is this: Is there a program that I can use to name files within a certain parameter? eg: I have all of one set in one folder and I tell the program to go numeric with a name-tag of Betty, and then all 500 "betty images get named "Betty ###"automatically.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also any programs that check for dupes using other than name techniqus would be super great too (I have been using size and then visual comparison, but this is fallible after a few hours).
There are lots of shareware/freeware programs that do exactly this, including checking for dupes based on criteria you select such as size, content, checksum, filename, datestamp.
A quick search in Google yielded many such utilities:
I would build one in FileMaker. You can create several categorical description fields, auto-import all the images to create the records in the first place, then sort and arrange according to the categories you’ve created, then, finally, rename the files themselves based on the category values.
When you’re done, you can keep the FileMaker db as an active catalogue if you want.
Rnameit.exe gets used at work daily.
Covers every possible renaming possibility.
Sounds like you have a lot of porn. If you’re renaming porn (betty.jpg…?) and use P2P then people downloading it will end up with duplicates, like you may have if it is porn… simply because someone else renamed the file. Not good, apparently.
I don’t upload things after I have them filed and stored. Too much of a nuisance and much of my material is from Score group LTD and the like, and as I don’t want to lose my connectivity I avoid posting.
