I have never in my life posted in one of these threads but I came in here to post just that. Whenever someone tells me or someone else that we’re being too harsh on a poster who is whining about their life and taking no steps to improve themselves, we can point to even sven as a good example. She has impressed the hell out of me too.
Really Not All That Bright, Miller, Muffin, Mangetout, Scissorjack, and Vinyl Turnip for their humor, and WhyNot, olivesmarch4th, Jodi, Zsofia, Rubystreak, and **Litoris **because I find them to be interesting, intelligent, funny people in general. And loads of others I can’t think of at the moment.
I really hope I didn’t get anyone’s name wrong.
Everybody on this board contributes to my online and, sometimes real, world in ways large and small. I may not agree with everyone, I may not understand everyone, and some of you simply gross me out! But from the TMI and the pan-fried semen and the truly mundane and pointless, to serious ideas about serious issues, you all have kept me entertained, enlightened, occasionally enraged, but definitely engaged, for more than three years now.
You’ve made me laugh out loud and you’ve brought me to tears. From the life-changing birth of a baby girl to the grief of losing a parent, a pet, a job. Joy, sorrow, philosophy to recipes… this board has really become part of my life.
Thanks, dopers. I like you all.
And of course, Vinyl Turnip. I don’t think I’ve ever not laughed at one of his one-liners.
Stranger on a Train. Dude knows stuff and is able to articulate it. Even when I get an answer in ahead of him, he’s able to explain the whats and whys that I just assume are a given and neglect to mention. I’ll give a yes or no answer, he’ll tell you why it’s yes or no.
Ok, it’s annoying sometimes, but usually admirable.
Elucidator - For his wit, mostly. Slyly entertaining posts.
Sampiro - Just a flat-out entertaining writer. Every OP is a must, for me.
Monstro - One of those people who can phrase things exactly how I’d like to express them, but never quite manage.
DtC - Just the sheer volume and passion, on so many topics. Agree, disagree, always read. Quite often agree, ftr.
Sapo - I just get a kick out of his anti-authoritarian mischief making.
I’m sure I could name a few dozen more. Despite it’s flaws, this board pulls in a lot of bright and interesting people.
I’m just too visually oriented to associate names with posts without some kind of icon or avatar. I can only even think of two names offhand. I do admire Illuminatiprimus, but that is probably as much because I’ve met him in real life as for any posting he’s done.
'Mika, you needn’t apologize, as I wasn’t being sarcastic when I said I appreciated your telling me to shape up.
ETA: It occurs to me that you may not have realized that I myself was the bloviator in question. As this is a feel-good thread, I sure as hell ain’t insulting anybody but me.
I admire, respect, and like all the posters who don’t shine like stars, who don’t cause controversy and stir shit up, who don’t post hysterically funny stories, but just contribute solidly and thoughtfully, day after day, year after year (and don’t usually get mentioned by name in threads like this in spite of how valuable your contributions are). All y’all are the glue that holds this place together.
You’re a sweetie pie. I am always afraid to post to these because I always leave someone out. Let’s just say with the exception of one or two (one who was on my ignore list for awhile) I like the bunch of ya.
Preach it, sister!
I lost in the 5th at Pimlico…
Still, as a career choice, it beats ‘White Castle’…
Well, thanks! But hey! Didn’t you also list me in the Posters You Can’t Stand thread? :dubious:
I never know who to list in these threads.
I was kidding, sheesh!
And I did mention that I quite enjoy your Thailand posts and the only problem I ever had with you was the week-or-two phase when you filled up MPSIMS with Thai news.
ETA: I love all the posters who talk about foreign things. They’re a big part of what makes this forum great.
I am in exalted company here. I’ll second Nzinga, because she not only showed an incredible amount of class and grace over the initial controversy when she first joined here, but because she’s consistently lived up to it.
And thanks, chromaticity, too.
I like the way FriarTed tends to question commonly held beliefs and be a voice of sanity amidst chaos. I also appreciate the incisive thinking that beagledave and Stratocaster invariably bring to spirited discussions.
Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever been mentioned in this type of thread before and I’ve got to say, that the two people who did (both freekalette and Justin) are awesome individuals whose friendships mean the world to me. If only we lived closer together, we’d be hangin’ out like a mother… you get the idea. Thanks guys. That means the world to me.
Apart from my admiration of them, I’d like to add eleanor, LHoD and chowder. They all either crack me up, put the world in perspective or offer me glimpses of how I wish things would be (and sometimes, all three) and I’m forever thrilled to check out their posts. I’d like to thank them too, for making my days brighter and helping the Dope to be one of my favoritest places.
And there’s plenty others, so I’ll just echo what Savannah said better than I could. I love this place and the members that make it great.
I love all of you, really. I even love our trolls. I don’t love each of you out of obligation, I love each of you for some unique and special insight you bring to me. I love you for adding to the diversity of this board.
I’ll just mention one person who I feel doesn’t get enough recognition around here. cmyk is an incredibly special human being. His posts are usually uniquely confident, rational, and insightful. He is both intelligent, thoughtful and funny as hell. He has been incredibly kind to me both on and off the boards, and one thing I deeply regret is having to move out of MichiDope territory and not getting the opportunity to spend more time with him and the rest of the gang.
Hockey Monkey for starting the ‘I’ve Never’ game, which looks like it’s been a pain in the butt to work the kinks out of. And then did another one.
Dolores Reborn for doing the feuds and putting up with people who can’t follow directions and the other hassles.
