What SDMB posters do you especially admire, respect, or like?

Like ivylass above, I’m afraid I’ll leave someone out and don’t want to give offense. but here goes anyway.

ivylass herself, for her sense of humor and fortitude in the face of uncertainty. You should have kept my hat girl!

TokyoPlayer, for his posts about his wife and kids. Which reminds me, I haven’t seen any recent pics TP. Well, huh, huh?

Siam Sam, for his posts from Thailand, especially his pigeon saga and the thread on civil unrest. The former is interesting to me as a member of the Audobon Society, and the latter for illuminating a situation not getting a lot of play in the news over here in the US.

Qadgop the Mercotan, for his medical and social insight, and for keeping confidences.

Scylla, for his humorous posts.

Dolores Reborn, for managing the Feuds in the Game Forum. We really ought to give her a week off once in a while.

amarone, for running the Death Pool. That’s gotta take up some time!

twickster, for her humor and sensitivity, and for running this year’s Secret Santa. In case anyone has noticed, we call each other “twin” because we discovered, in one of the birthday threads, that not only do we share a birth date but a birth year. She’s just a few hours older than me!

swampbear, for just being so all over cool and funny.

Many others too, I reserve the right to add more!

Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me, as well as what Stratocaster said. You guys are both favorites of mine, too!

Janitor!

pushes broom through thread

I’m sorry you feel that way, Chimera. I have one of your posts pasted in a document on my desktop. It was advice about anger and the power negative thoughts can have. I’ve re-read it many times and it’s helped me very much.

The same goes for you, olivesmarch4th. I keep a post of yours about PTSD and recovery. I grew up walking on eggshells and your advice has helped me accept that I may just have to live with occasional moments of panic and anxiety.

And what Savannah said (because I don’t have her talent to compose such a lovely post).

From someone who reads daily but almost never posts:

Liberal, because I think he’s got a sense of humour that goes unnoticed much too often and because I belive he really does take both the good and the bad of what is said about him and actually considers it carefully.

Qadgop the Mercoran, for being very, very witty and for being willing to share the advice and information that helps makes this board so informative.

WhyNot and Manda Jo, both for being down-to-earth sensible and just darn smart when it comes to life and relationships and for sharing their very thoughtful (and generally right) opinions.

Der Trihs, because although he can be very abrassive in the way he says things, he says them with passion and feeling. As an athiest myself, I occasionally cringe when he phrases things a certain way but I also agree with much of what he’s trying to say.

Nzinga, Seated, because she is just darn funny but also can be very serious and thoughtful in her posts.

Lots of others who I think make great contributions to this message board (especially those who swim against mainstream thinking on occasion) and would miss them and their opinions/thoughts/grievences/wit if they were to disappear; Shayna, even sven, swampbear, Baker, muffin, jayjay, Siam Sam, elanorigby, among others.

And, someone who has not posted for a long time, mouthbreather, because he was once kind enough to offer a shoulder.

Anaamika once said something very nice that I haven’t forgotten.

Ginger of the North and Weird Dave for their many kindnesses and hosting the annual Dope the Halls.

I just got back in town and haven’t had much of an internet connection this last week…sorry I’m late to the party.

I totally adore Whynot, she has such an eclectic knowledge of so many things that I just have to. She’s a cool mom, level headed pagan (which can be hard to find at times!), extensive knowledge of natural medicine and so on and on.

Anaamika is just amazing of course. Cute and smart and I totally want to meet her some day.

My LA crew are all awesome, Asimovian, SilverTygerGirl, Queen Bruin, Dr Drake and all the others.

Illuminatiprimus who I have the major crush on.

A ton of others of course, but I’m still a tad hung over so can’t come up with the rest right now by name.

also

amarone for all his work on the Death pool each year.

I open ITR Champion’s OPs because it’s almost an instant shit storm from the usual suspects I like and admire.

Dangermom, who usually posts what I was going to say before I do. Much of my low post count is due to her.

Dude! What about your mad Doper crush on me?

I’m still 94% straight, but it’s wise to keep one’s options open.

That Khadaji guy is usually pretty courteous - and thoughtful. Not to mention good-looking. (Check out his profile!)

Aw, jeez, too damn many to list. Apologies to anyone I left off… just assume your name got deleted by a subspace anomaly, OK?

What Exit? for being a good and thoughtful friend, a Tolkien trivia resource, a sounding board for crazy ideas, and - of course! - for running a kickass series of Middle-earth adventures (even if his spelling skills and appreciation of Keira Knightley leave something to be desired).

Malacandra and glee, especially, for being boon companions on those adventures.

Gfactor for being my go-to guy for legal issues I don’t already know… which are many.

Samclem, for his appreciation of Mark Twain and his wry, offbeat outlook on life.

BMalion and elmwood, local Dopers of note, just for being good, smart, funny guys. And kittenblue, too, except for the “guy” part.

Qadgop the Mercotan, a calm, wise, well-informed authority on all things Tolkien.

Exapno Mapcase and OtakuLoki for having the best usernames and the best senses of humor around here.

And, of course, Dolores Reborn for her boundless energy and good humor in running the Feuds, which I’ve enjoyed immensely. She understands that I submit so many new Feuds because I usually score so badly on them… and she doesn’t hate me for it.

Oh, and Nava. I always look to her for things linguistic.

What, my crush doesn’t count?

‘crush’, ‘want TO crush’, same difference, right? :stuck_out_tongue:

tomndebb, **Diogenes **, matt_mcl, 5-4 Fighting and Miller are among those who frequently say what needs to be said.

I enjoy the thoughtful and often enlightening perspectives of Nzinga, SentientMeat (come back!), Polycarp and eleanorrigby.

I appreciate GorillaMan and chowder, both Brit Dopers - voice of reason and source of a somewhat cynical sense of humour, respectively.

Sampiro, obviously, for entertaining me more than any internet poster should do.

Sometimes I think he’s smarter than Cecil.

I have the feeling that something very bad is going to happen to me very soon for saying that. Like that scene in Rose Red where the telekinetic girl make boulders fall from the sky…

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. You made my year. Every time I doubt the value of opening up about that stuff on these boards, I’ll remember you. It’s a lifelong process. I really hope you’ve come to be in a more peaceful place.

I, like many others, think that we are smart and I have lots of street cred to prove it as do others. However, I think Stranger On A Train is the smartest person I have ever encountered in the natural world when it comes to the types of subjects we do here. It is like he is a literal superhero when it comes to this stuff and I am not sure how he does it. That is not a kiss-ass comment at all. I have given several lectures to an an exclusive room of Ivy League, tenured, professors with great success and he blows me away and I can’t quite figure out how it is done.

I am finally going to ask this once and for all. Stranger, we have tons of people here with high IQ’s yet you seem to be in your own league when it comes to some really unrelated topics that you seem to have an interest in. I am very proud to know you but this is one of the weirdest things I have ever seen.

What in your lifestyle starting from childhood gives you this ability? Don’t be shy because it is a real question and lots of us are curious. It is very unusual to say the least even among the so-called intellectually elite. Do you read 16 hours a day? Do you have a photographic memory?

I am dead serious that I want to know how this is done.
