I swear I remember reading some article about some delicious green powder thing one can put on popcorn that’s full of all sorts of things that are good for you, but a search isn’t turning it up.
This is sparked by that poll somewhere here about methods of popping popcorn - I’m trying to lose weight to fit into a wedding dress, and I’ve never popped popcorn on the stove although for some reason I had a big jar of popcorn in the pantry, so I decided to try stove popping (which, of course, allowed me to control what went in it.) By the way - when they tell you you need to keep the lid on it, they mean it and you definitely shouldn’t let it slide off while shaking the pot. Wow. (I was surprised, by the way, to enjoy nutritional yeast on it - I bought some on a whim a long time ago and haven’t found a way to use it that isn’t gross since.)
So anyway, I’m sure it was seaweed or some sort of sea vegetable or some water-borne powdered commodity. What was it? (Only things that taste good need apply.)
That’s gotta be it. I was thinking furikake even before I reached the end of the OP. It comes in a sprinkle can, it’s the right density and size, and it would probably taste damn good on popcorn. I wish I had thought of it myself.
Powdered kelp is really delicious. Great on salads and popcorn. And, although I haven’t seen it powdered, sea lettuce (nori) is also awesome. Around here there’s this (sorta expensive) brand of nori snacks that have sesame and wasabe. Soooo good!
In Hawaii Furikake on popcorn is common. Also, little arare rice crackers go very nicely. I used to sneak a pack of arare into movie theaters to eat with their popcorn.
There is a company that makes so-called hurricane popcorn. It’s very good.
