Honestly, if Hillary was actually responsible for the Trump campaign I would vote for her in a hot second. That level of cleverness, planning and manipulation is exactly what you want in a president.
Sadly, the fault of Trump’s candidacy falls squarely on GOP voters.

I remember a joke that my old US History teacher told us in high school that is appropriate, but I can’t find out if its true or not.
Supposedly, before being president, Harry Truman’s codename was “Mushroom”. He wasn’t privy to the nuke secrets, so the codename referring to him being kept in the dark and fed shit. That would be appropriate for all of these candidates.
How did the Secret Service know about the Manhattan Project?
I dunno, I’m guessing some had to guard FDR as he toured the Manhattan Project Site? Maybe it was really just a joke and had no basis in fact then
Now that is an interesting question. If FDR visited any of the Manhattan sites, would the SS leave him at the gate and US Army personnel be concerned with his protection?
I would be willing to bet that FDR never visited any of the sights, lest his visit arouse suspicion.

I would think they get as many people in the dark as possible. I like the idea that FDR never visited sites so as not to call attention to it. He didn’t have the math anyway. 
Makes sense, what would have been the point? If periodic reports on the Manhattan Project’s progress came across his desk, he would have known all he needed to know about it, all he needed to know about it being, “Are we there yet?!”
