For instance, I love the smell of horses and barns. My husband finds this incredibly nasty and strange. But I walk into a barn (preferably a horse barn), and I just can’t get enough of it. If they bottled that smell and sold it as cologne, I douse my husband in it and then spend the rest of my day with my nose stuck to his skin enjoying the scent.
I LOVE the smell of gasoline. Everytime I go to a gas station it’s pure joy. If they made THAT as a colonge, I would wear it myself. (I’m a girl by the way) It might raise some eyebrows (and noses) though. Picture this conversation between people.
Back in Poland, where my mom’s appartment is, the appartment building is increadibly old. The basements (a long corridor with rooms on either sides, one for each appartment), which are storage rooms (first used to store wine and alcohol, it’s somewhat sealed) there’s and old, musty, gasoline smell (i really can’t describe it) that i just loved to smell as a kid.
OMG, I love the smell of gasoline too! Even when I was a little girl.
I went to a show a year or two ago here in LA put on by Something Something Laboratories (Gah! I gotta Google that before I go insane). Anyway, they would make all these crazy machines out of junked machines from the military and such (one of them was a 2x4 shooter). It was a crazy show, lots of fire, noise and explosions.
After we left we reeked of jet fuel. My BF and I drove home and promptly had sex. The smell turned us on. However, there was the very real fear of injesting jet fuel, but that didn’t deter us.
I love the smell of a campfire. Hate the smell of gasoline.
I love the smell of basement. Hate the smell of guns.
I don’t mind the smell of a doctor’s office. Hate the smell of asphalt.
I’m with you, AliiiOooop – I love the smell of skunks. Have ever since I was little. On the other hand, I’ve never been sprayed, I’ve only caught a whiff here and there on the breeze.
I have a weird one. It’s not exactly asphalt, but it’s the liquid black stuff they use to seal it after repairing it. I remember my dad using one of those long-handled squeegees to spread it out on the driveway. I love that smell.
The smell of someone who is been outdoors in warm weather. Not the smell of sweat, per se, but the smell of the outdoors on them. You know what I mean?
oooh I like that barn smell too. It reminds me of when I would spend summers at my grandparents ranch.
I also like the smells of:
*gasoline
*burnt matches (that sulfer smell)
*Acrylic nail stuff (sort of like car paint primer)
*and my cats Smelly Cat Breath
Horses and barns are great, but more people find it odd that I like the smell of cows. I can drive by a dairy and take a big sniff, especially if they’ve got some fresh silage open.
And I do like a whiff of skunk too, but not full strength.
I love that my man sometimes smells like grease and diesel and cigars.
I’ll fifth gasoline. I’ve always loved it… even as a child when I once unintentionally got high off of huffing it for a good fifteen minutes. Wasn’t a pleasant experience.
horses and barns
gasoline (back in the day, “leaded” was was the hands-down favorite)
skunk
My own unique offering:
The scent of my parents’ freshly lit “True Blue 100’s” cigarettes. It had to be freshly lit, with a match. I’m guessing it had something to do with whatever chemical cocktail existed at the tip of those particular cancer-sticks, coupled with whatever accelerant was on the matches.
