“Send in the Clowns” by Frank Sinatra. Really gets to me…
Happy xmas by john Lennon
Thank you CanadianSue. Thank you, pepperlandgirl, I couldn’t remember Joe Cocker’s name. Some more I forgot to mention earlier:
Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers
Don’t Close Your Eyes by Keith Whitley
Send In The Clowns by Old Blue Eyes
The Heart Won’t Lie by Vince Gill
Look At Us by Vince Gill
I Still Believe In You by Vince Gill (In fact, just about his whole Souvenirs CD)
How Can We Be Lovers If We Can’t Be Friends? by Michael Bolton ( It came out during a rough patch for my hubby and I, still gets to me)
Okay, now I have to go listen to these songs and cry…
If You Were My Woman by george Michael
Natural Woman sung by Toni Tennille
MEN don’t swoon! We just kinda get all gooshy and mellow inside, weak kneed and nostalgic.
‘Oh What A Night’ – Reminds me of the very, very pretty, tiny little red haired lady I knew years ago and whose Peace Symbol earring – left behind by her – that is on my key ring today. It’s been there for 26 years, though I don’t know where she is.
‘Stones’ by Neil Diamond – Which reminds me of a dark eyed, long haired, pixie nosed lady who smelled of Herbal Essence shampoo, gave me my first joint, wore granny skirts, introduced me to waterbeds and was gentle and beautiful.
Swoon, I dunno, but there’s a few songs that can even get mr. Coldfire kind of misty.
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms
(Partially because it was played at a funeral of my uncle’s boyfriend)
Don Henley - Boys of Summer
(Call it what you want, but this is still the ultimate “Summer Love” song to me)
I’ll second Dolly Parton’s version of “I will always love you”. But leave Whitney Houston out of this.
Beethovens IXth.
(If the sung part [lyrics by Schiller] doesn’t send shivers down your spine, nothing ever will. I can recommend my version, by the Berliner Philharmoniker.)
“Alle Menschen werden Brueder sein.”
Kiss from a Rose by Seal
“There used to be a greying tower alone on the sea
You became the light on the dark side of me
Love remains a drug that’s the high and not the pill”
sigh
I can’t believe no one’s said Smooth by Carlos Santana. That song is so sexy!
“And if you said this life ain’t good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
'Cause you’re so smooth.”
Smooth indeed. ::swoon::
Damn, why am I alone right now?!
“It’s Raining Men” by the Weather Girls. I realize it’s a silly disco song, but the song makes me happy. Go figure.
– Baglady
Oh! How could I have forgotten Let’s Stay Together by Al Green? Al Green is the king of sexy songs. You cannot put on an Al Green CD and not want to make love.
“God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You” performed by Nsync
“Forever” by The Beach Boys
“Insensitive” by Jann Arden
“I Don’t Wanna Wait” by Paula Cole
It’s mostly the really sad songs that really get to me…my picks:
Iris - The Goo Goo Dolls
Name - The Goo Goo Dolls (especially when I had 7th row seats at a concert, and John Rzeznik looked directly at me and flashed that smile during this song. sigh)
Wicked Game - Chris Isaak
When I Fall in Love - ???
At This Moment - Billy Vera and the Beaters
Shameless - I prefer the Billy Joel version
Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven
Love on the Rocks - Neil Diamond
September Morn - Neil Diamond
Don’t You Cry Tonight - Guns 'n Roses
Crying - Roy Orbison
Blues For Baby And Me - Elton John
I could go on and on…
I have a physical reaction (weepy eyes, kind of a shivery feeling up my spine) to the melody of the Pogues/Kirsty MacColl song “Fairytale of New York”. Love the lyrics, too, but it’s the melody that does it to me. “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” has a similar effect.
For some reason, The Band’s “It Makes No Difference” also gets to me.
More great songs I forgot to mention. The nostalgia is making me rather weepy tonight. I miss my honey so much…
Pretty much anything by Johnny Mathis, Jim Nabors, Nat King Cole, Robert Goulet (hey, my Mom listened to this stuff, I’m not that old. well, maybe I am getting to be.)
Kentucky Rain by Elvis
Are You Lonesome Tonight by Elvis
When I Fall In Love by Nat King Cole, and the remake with Natalie Cole dubbed with her dad.
At This Moment by Billy Vera and the Beaters
God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You by N’Sync
Lonely by Bobby Vinton
Sigh Alone is a terrible place to be sometimes…
I almost forgot. Hotel California brings to mind a certain, mysterious, beautiful and wonderful lady from years ago. Dark hair, dark eyes and a fluid walk that has to be seen to be believed, with a gentle smile almost esoteric in appearance. Smallish, pert breasts, gentle hips, soft hands, and the outward appearance of knowing calm and caring understanding.
My major regret is that when I met her, I was far, far to immature to know how to act. If I met her then, knowing what I do now, things might have turned out spectacularly different. She slipped away from me and my world has not been the same since. After all of these years, after all of the women I’ve known, the places I have been and the things I have done, - some good, some bad, - I can still feel *her * warm, wonderful embrace when I think about it, in her front room on Rock Road, Fort Pierce, Florida back in the very early 70s.
I was such an ignorant ass!
Diamond Sea by Sonic Youth
[ul]
look into his eyes and you will see
that men are not alone on the diamond sea
sail into the heart of the loenley storm
and tell her that you’ll love her eternally
[/ul]
Its a little known Prince track,
“Scandalous” on the soundtrack to “Batman”.
Obviously there is a memory attached.
Best sex song I have ever heard.
Thanks, P-girl, you’ve given me a good excuse to listen to some o’ the good ones again (the ones that “classic rock” radio hasn’t murdered through constant repition that is). Purely coincidentally, I found a chart for “Waterlow” by Mott the Hoople today, and when I haltingly tried to play it, it was almost too much–not a specific broken heart for me, but kind of all of them rolled into one! Ian Hunter has always had a knack for writing the songs I wanted to.
–Alan Q
man…i almost forgot…and i’m listening to them now too…
that lou barlow (sebadoh or folk implossion) can write a good song. “willing to wait”
[ul]
but, oooh, when i saw you again
a beautiful friend
she opened up her heart and let me in
noooo, i cannot lie to you
i’m still in love with you
and only want to be with you
[/ul]
Okay there are a fair amount for me. Lets see
Iris by Goo Goo Dolls
