What songs make you swoon everytime?

Everything I Do (I Do It For You) – Bryan Adams

Danced to it with my brand-new wife at the reception for my ill-fated wedding, oh, so many years ago.

::sigh::

Love, Me-Colin Ray

Lady in Red-Chris DeBurgh (sp?)

The Greatest-Kenny Rogers

Kiss You All Over-Exile

Wicked Game-Chris Isaak

The Rose-Bette Midler

heh. It’s Raining Men? Baglady, I have a friend who insists that is the gayest song ever written. I insist that YMCA wins. None the less…heh.

Chalk me up to the Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls crowd. Ah, Johnny. So sensetive, and yet such a badass rockstar… ::sigh::

“Take My Breath Away” by Berlin. Definitely.
“Father Figure” by George Michael. Yowsa.
“If I Could Fly” (?) - Gawd. Another pedo-pop song.
“Killing Me Softly” - Roberta Flack
“The Beautiful Ones” (live version) - TAFKAP
“Endless Love” Lionel Ritchie & Diana Ross. Beautiful melody.
“End of Innocence” - Don Henley.
“Alone” - Heart - acoustic version
and for some odd reason, “Comfortably Numb” by Pink Floyd

Not for any particular purpose or memory…I just REALLY like, well, almost anything by Dave Matthews (especially “The Love of My Life”, with Carlos Santana), “Don’t Let it Bring You Down”, a Neil Young song that Annie Lennox covered for the American Beauty soundtrack, and “Roads” and “Sour Times” by Portishead. Oh, then there’s pretty much anything that Fiona Apple or Mazzy Star have ever so much as hummed

Shutting up now.

“Sounds of Silence”

Please let us not forget the poignancy of Something in Red by Lorrie Morgan.
And for god’s sake, if you’re gonna listen to Send In the Clowns, listen to the Judy Collins version. Frank (I sing 'em like I wanna) Sinatra can’t compare.

I can’t believe I forgot “Lover Lay Down” and “Crash” by Dave Matthews. Those songs are like ice-cream to me.

Here are a few of my favorite swoon songs

These arms of mine by Otis Redding
At Last by Etta James
The air that I breathe by Kd Lang

Guys don’t swoon. They are briefly overcome by feelings of (love/hate/nostalgia/general emotion) that may be attached to certain songs. For example…

  1. “Missing You” by John Waite. Never fails to remind me of driving to the beach one night with the cutest girl I ever dated in my beloved 1971 convertible VW. This trip down memory lane always ends in nostalgia (for both the girl and the car.)

  2. “Little Miss Magic” by Jimmy Buffett reminds me of a girl I met at a Buffett concert, especially the line about “constantly amazed by the blades of the fan on the ceiling.” (She wasn’t the brightest bulb of them all…)

  3. “A Long December” by Counting Crows reminds me of the day when I ‘discovered’ that trust is something to be earned and not to be granted right off the bat.

  4. “Sullivan Street” by the same band reminds me of my discovery of the importance of my childhood home and all of the places and things that are familiar to me.

  5. “What Do I Have To Do?” by Stabbing Westward reminds me of a night when my buddies pulled me out of the house I had been moping around since breaking up with my girlfriend, liquored me up, and helped me celebrate the end of the tyranny by taking me to a strip club. Every time I hear the song, I remember that it’s important to listen to your friends and their perspective.

Cats in the cradle, by Harry Chapin.

Everytime I hear it, I think of my Dad, and mourn.

And then I look at my own children, with a sense of desperation at how fast they’re growing up, and I feel very much caught in the middle.

And then there is colour my world, by Chicago…Sigh.

Please don’t snicker.

‘Somebody’ by Depeche Mode

‘to my way of thinking, in fact she’ll often disagree,
but at the end of it all, she will understand me…’

For me it is definitely Groovy kind of Love as sung by Phil Collins. He sings it so slow and sad that I can’t get through it without a tissue. Plus I heard it for the first time after being suddenly dumped in high school.

Also, From This Moment by Shania Twain featured prominently in my wedding so it still kind of gets me right there.

Chrisbar

Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton always makes me cry, as does Angel Eyes from Jeff Healy.

In Your Eyes - the live version, by Peter Gabriel

Also, a song by Billy Joel. Don’t know the name, but the lyrics go something like this:

In every heart, there is a room,
a sanctuary safe and sound,
to heal the wounds from lovers past,
until a new one comes along.

I spoke to you in cautious tones,
you answered me with no pretense,
and still I fear I’ve said too much,
my silence is my self-defense.

And every time I’ve held a rose,
it seems I only felt the thorns.
And so it goes and so it goes,
and you’re the only one who knows.

But if my silence made you leave,
then that would be my worst mistake,
so I will share this room with you,
and you can have this heart to break.

And this is why my eyes are closed,
it’s just as well for all I’ve seen.
And so it goes and so it goes,
and so will you soon I suppose.

But I would choose to stay with you,
that’s if the choice were mine to make.
But you can make decisions too,
and you can have this heart to break.

The song that makes me all schmoopy and causes me to take my SO’s hand and hold it tight is Restless Heart’s “I’ll Still Be Loving You”:

I’ll be yours until the sun doesn’t shine,
'Til time stands still,
Until the winds don’t blow.
When today is just a memory to me, I know
I’ll still be loving you.

We heard this song one night early in our relationship when he was going through a low point in his life. I vowed to him then that I would always be here for him, no matter what. That was eight years ago, and I love him more and more every day.

Now I feel all naked.

phouka -

The Billy Joel song is “And So It Goes” from his Storm Front CD.

I heard this on the way home and as cliche as it is, I still swoon over “I Go Crazy” by Paul Davis.

It’s on all of those cheesy tv commercial “love song” collections, but I’ve yet to succumb in order to get my own personal copy. It’s just too embarrassing.

BTW, after the song was over, I discovered I was listening to Delilah. That makes 2 embarrassing confessions in one post.

The strands in your eyes
that color them wonderful
stop me and steal my breath.
And emeralds from mountains
thrust towards the sky
never revealing their depth.

And tell me, that we belong together
dress it up with the trappings of love.
I’ll be captivated, I’ll hang from your lips
instead of the gallows
of heartache
that hang from above.

I’ll be
your cryin’ shoulder.
I’ll be
love suicide.
I’ll be
better when I’m older.
I’ll be
the greatest event of your life.

Rain falls
angry on the tin roof
as we lie awake in my bed.
And you’re my survival
you’re my living proof:
my love is alive
and not dead.

And tell me
that we belong together
dress it up with the trappings of love.
I’ll be captivated
I’ll hang from your lips
insted of the gallows
of heartache
that hang from above.

And I’ll be
your cryin’ shoulder
I’ll be
Love suicide.
I’ll be
better when I’m older
I’ll be the greatest event of your life.

Works every time, get all teary-eyed and stuff.
There are more, but I won't make this a 5-mile long post by putting all the lyrics in here. The list is as follows:

*I Don't Want to Miss a Thing-*Aerosmith
*Please Forgive Me (I Know Not What I Do)-*Brian Adams
*Disarm-*Smashing Pumpkins
*Let's Get It On-*Marvin Gaye
*Don't Know What You Got (Til it's Gone)-*Cinderella
*Every Rose Has it's Thorn-*Poison
*I Do-*some country guy I can't remember right now
*I try-*Macy Gray

Those do the trick, great songs.

Eh? no comments on Alice?
