Buffy (7 seasons)
Angel (5 seasons)
Firefly (14 episodes)
CSI (4 seasons)
Alias (3 seasons)
24 (3 seasons)
Futurama (4 seasons)
The Simpsons (5 seasons)
Wonderfalls (13 episodes)
Charmed (1 season)
Farscape (4 seasons)
Those are the TV shows I have on DVD. I love them.
If you try Wonderfalls and like it, the next step would be Dead Like Me, which was from the same production team and was very similar in tone, but with even blacker humour. It lasted two seasons on Showtime and the first is currently available. Wonderfalls is good choice because guessing their fate they did a reasonably tight little 13-episode mini-arc for the series. For that matter DLM ends on reasonable note as well.
For lighter but just as surreal, [b[Greg the Bunny** is fun. Another cancelled series easily absorbed in just a few sittings.
Otherwise a big agreement on Freaks and Geeks, Buffy, Futurama, but most of all Deadwood. If it is brutal, superbly written and acted Soprano-esque drama you want Deadwood is evey bit as good. Possibly ( whisper it! ) even better. Best show on TV right now in its second season.
Also Carnivale, which moved a bit slow in the first season for some folks taste, but actually works much better absorbed in larger chunks from the DVD. Just completed a much faster moving second season.
Band of Brothers.
Catch up on the denziens of the Old One-Two with the first season of Barney Miller.
Band of Brothers was outstanding.
Another favorite of mine is “From the Earth to the Moon”.
I also love the A&E adaptation of Pride & Prejudice with Colin Firth.
