Because even if he wasn’t posting here, the knowledge that someone, somewhere is not following the rules, will make **Carol Stream’s **asshole pucker like a frightened pink starfish.
Will someone please make this their username?
In all honesty, it hasn’t been the same without the Colonel. RIP
Well, here I am, a day ahead of schedule. I don’t see that this thread should be moved, since it’s clearly gone south since the OP.
PS, if you want to have a moderator look at the thread, there is a “Report This Post” feature. Carol Stream, I’d expect such an experienced user as yourself to be aware of this functionality, but, it’s the red and white button on the upper right hand corner of each post. If you hover your mouse over it, it will even say “Report This Post”.
Your industrial-strength suck must be infecting formerly nonsucky posters.
They wouldn’t by any chance be playing “The Ocean Breathes Salty” by Modest Mouse in the background would they? KFC, now with sea salt!
Enough with the complete jerk thing, Carol Stream. You’re starting to get a reputation.
When reading the messages in this thread - as opposed to the personalities of those who posted to it - only one conclusion can be drawn: *“What the hell, KFC? (Mild)” *is just one in a long line of non-pitworthy turds dumped here. It flies in the face of the guidelines clearly affixed atop this forum, rules that clearly state:
It’s not that hard to understand. MPSIMS-themed threads peppered with an occasional expletive don’t make the cut - nor does a topic that wouldn’t garner so much as one or two replies on a weblog or live journal. Back-slapping, community get-togethers are designed for other forums - not this one. This is the place for bile fueled rants, piss and vinegar. That’s what makes The Pit unique, it’s a forum where people can post snide, vicious or disgusting rants without the need for niceties or community-minded manners.
If Zotti’s plan to have this message board make money is gonna succeed, threads like this one, these (and likely a few others currently on page #1) need to be put where they belong. Not doing so sets a bed example for both returning members & newcomers. If not, there will be too many people who assume the BBQ Pit is/has become a lame social forum where people throw in an occasional “fuck” or “damn”. In my opinion, having 2 MPSIMS forums (one G-rated and one PG-rated) isn’t likely to garner as much traffic to this site or to the BBQ Pit forum with contrived anger, mock vitriol or sheer lameness.
I guess it has kind of evolved into a sniping match. I can’t speak to why no one reported this thread for movement to puppy land (or Cafe Society). I have to assume some don’t like playing the role of hall monitor. I’m sure there are many others who don’t give a shit. There might even be one or two people that take the “Report This Post” button’s name literally, and don’t use it for threads - but only for posts buried further down that might’ve escaped notice. The Devil’s Advocate position for a contrary action on your part would’ve been to edit the one line in post #18 that read “Shut the fuck up, you fucking troll” - and them moved it accordingly.
Apparently, Carol Stream isn’t high in the running for a ‘Doper of the Year’ award. But that doesn’t negate the fact his(?) complaint about the OP’s choice of forum was spot on.
During the time when our short-term memory was broken, evidence was posted that it’s a she.
As if anyone still gives a fuck, at this point.
Bite your tongue, sir. Original recipe on the bone is YUMMY!!! The ad makes me think about whether the strips would be as good, since they don’t contain whatever oozes out of bone during cooking. And they are all white meat, and I prefer the darkness of a thigh. I hate the commerical because it makes me hungry for something I can’t eat.
I agree that keeping MPSIMS-type threads out of this forum is important, and I do move such threads regularly. From an enforcement end, realize that moderators DO have real lives, and weekends in particular we tend to be oot and aboot. I do check email frequently, so I get reported posts multiple times a day at minimum. However, someone does actually have to report the thread - that didn’t happen until about 12 hours before I responded.
Anyway, I think the concerns that ‘MPSIMS threads in the Pit mean that the Dope won’t make money’ are a bit overblown. People who are die hard about forum differences are almost always long-term posters, and, I don’t know that the BBQ Pit really adds to our marketability to new posters. By and large, if it’s a huge attractant for a new poster, that poster tends to end up being a crank/troll/bannee/sock/all of the above. The BBQ Pit exists mostly as a pressure valve for the existing community.
*Personally, I don’t blame people for not reporting posts. If you don’t give a shit, that’s fine; we’ll check in sooner or later. What I do blame people for is not reporting posts, but then posting to whine “Where are the moderators?”, which is just flipping retarded drama bullshit.
I (and our moderating staff in general) do not edit threads for content, either for purposes of moving threads between forums or for other reasons. We generally only edit to break links, fix coding, remove duplicates, and other “bookkeeping” type stuff. So, this isn’t something I’d do.
In any case I think it’s best to leave a thread in the Pit once it has (d)evolved into criticizing other posters for forum selection / discussing moderation policy / some general whining (not you, others).
First, and more importantly: Thanks for your polite and thoughtful post. I have a hunch if I’d kept my initial reply to a more readable length, your response wouldn’t have chewed up as much time as (I assume) it did.
I’m obviously not anyone’s spokesman, Hazle Weatherfield hit the nail on the head in post #4. I’m not shilling for Mr(s). Stream - but assume those posts were a direct commentary on the fact a moderator was the first person to reply to this embarrassingly lame pit thread - and didn’t make the right call with regards to placement. Not exactly a big deal either way - but in this specific case, definitely not worthy of troll accusations or shit tossing.
Are you the kid that reminded the teacher she forgot to assign homework?
Fair enough of a criticism. I guess my only counter-point is to keep in mind that it was not a Pit moderator; while I’ll moderate other forums, when it comes to moving threads out of a forum, I generally prefer to leave it to a “native” mod (excessive cases aside). It just seems like the polite thing to do, somehow. I’ve moved game threads from CS to Game Room and it always feels like a “yoink! I stole your thread” kind of move.
Said moderator glanced at the question, thought he knew the answer to the question, then rushed out the door to catch a bus. By the time he came back, Carol Stream turned an innocent thread into a whiny Pit session.
Were it not for the use of the adjective “whiny”, which unfairly characterizes the complaint as invalid, I wouldn’t have even replied. Mass transit notwithstanding, it appears there was ample opportunity to move this thread. The insinuation that the comments that called both this “rant” & lack of moderator action into question came immediately after your answer isn’t accurate. With more than 25 hours between your initial reply & Carol Stream’s snide remark, (in which you made a dozen posts & modded Barnhouse), the ensuing hijack, sniping, and ‘attack the meanie’ pile-on probably could’ve been avoided.
Seeing that this thread is much ado about nothing, and the OP hasn’t returned, it’s probably best to close it. Let it fall into the oblivion it belongs in.
I’ve been reading the Dope without posting for a couple of years now and can honsetly say that Carol Stream is the biggest douche bag I can remember seeing that wasn’t an (obvious) troll.
To get back to the OP; Kentucky Fucked Chicken (happy now Carol you husk?) are currently running a very lame ad at the moment for the ‘Boneless Banquet for One’ which, apart from looking like deep fried turds is a brilliant euphamism for female masturbation so there is an upside.
From her profile:
Awww.
Plaintive!
Best line from that song: “Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.” I love that song.
I’ve heard this claim before (I think it was in a Cecil column, actually), but if that’s the case, then what’s in the vials?
My best guess? A specific blend of obscure spices that do nothing for the flavor at all, but do serve a two-fold purpose-it makes the recipe “special”, and it allows them to legally protect the recipe.
Makes sense, but what is this legal recipe protection? I was under the impression that the only way to “protect” a recipe would be a copyright on the specific wording of it. And if it’s legally safe, then why such heavy security surrounding a yellow piece of paper?
