Apparently the BBC Security correspondant has found a website ‘linked with al Qaeda’ which has 1 200 word admission of guilt for these attacks.
I’m not trying to promote the validity of my argument. It’s the first thing that popped into my head, London got the 2012 Olympics, London got bombed. I’m sure the G8 summit had more to do with it, but again, trying to understand the thought processes of the terrorists is a bit beyond me.

My impression is that since the UK police is preoccupied with security at the G8 Summit, and after the Met Police had to send in another 5000 officers to support police in Scotland, this makes London more vulnerable than usual. As far as I can tell, though Ossama seems to be quite a cross country runner, he has no interest in the Olympics. This is assuming that the website claiming AQ responsibility is not some BS.
FWIW that was my first thought, too, even though the Olympics probably have nothing to do with it.

OMG! It’s the height of our rush hour here but so far so good–people are going to arrive at work and find out that our big sister subway has been attacked. How completely horrible. My heart goes out to all UK Dopers.
