For Miss Canada: 20-14 represents 2014, the year of the pageant. I guess.
All I could think about Canada’s outfit was:
“O Canada! Oh, honey, oh. Oh no, sweetie, no.”
“I see were you were going, but no. Oh Canada, no.”
I love the national perspective shown in this thread. For Canadians is it about pretty girls in fancy costumes? No, it’s about hockey. Everything is about hockey. Except when it’s about curling.
Curling will be next year: Like this.
Good for Canada to make a joke out of the whole peacock costume thing.
I’m watching a video of this competition. We’re missing the best part of Miss Canada’s costume - the back of her skirt is marked up like a hockey rink. I love it!
The indignity of that is so nuts. The commentary of Tom and Lorenzo was jut fabulous.
This absolutely made my day.
Exactly. We need more countries to signal the event is not to be taken seriously.
Or maybe a touch of reality…
“Today I come in my country’s typical attire. Secondhand jeans one size too small, whale-tail underwear, flipflops and cutoff bootleg NBA t-shirt.”
“Outfit represents daily life in home city. Is why am packing automatic weapon and backpack with canned food.”
The Canada dress is hilarious! Winner, hands down! And really, Miss USA? Really? A Pilgrim costume would have been much more inspired. Heck, I’d even take a tacky Halloween “Sexy Pilgrim” costume! Too many of these ladies have NO imagination.
So much potential wasted! France should have been a mime with an Eiffel tower on her head.
And some have w-a-a-a-y too much.
I am sooo disappointed by this year’s American costume. Look what they did last year. It was a freaking gigantic transformer. Instead we got this year’s boring mishmash. It’s a bed sheets and a bathing suit. It ought to be like fireworks and big giant cheeseburgers. Or guns and skyscrapers and giant ass cars or something. We are losing the tacky ass costume race to places Canada for cripes sake. America Jr, as Homer Simspon put it.
Australia. Listen to me.
It’s not “cute” or “avant-garde” or “bold” to always make your designs look like a child did them. It’s just boring now, and it makes you look like you don’t have the the skill to make beautiful and subtle designs.
Sorry, posting half asleep. I did go back and look at that picture again. What kind of hose are those? When I enlarge the picture I can see her toes and the light reflecting off of the nails. I don’t see where the hose would end. I’m honestly wondering. The “bunchy toes” thing has really put me off wearing panty hose in the past. It would be nice to find some that leave my feet looking and feeling more normal.
I found the explanation for Miss British Virgin Islands: Coat of arms of the British Virgin Islands - Wikipedia
IDK, seems almost prescient given the All-Star game yesterday.
Box Score
BT Dubs and OT… Tavares!
To be fair the All Star game just fished up with a score of 17-12.
JRDelirious, I registered just so I could say thank you! It wasn’t just me that saw Miss Argentina’s hoo-ha. I thought it was my imagination!
Probably because it’s based on traditional Russian costume. The headdress is called a kokoshnik.
Here are some traditional costumes worn at a costume ball given at the Winter Palace in 1903. (Of course, Imperial court dress had changed considerably by then, but this is what it would’ve looked like prior to Peter the Great) Some of these costumes are on display now at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
(Okay, that concludes today’s history lesson!)
My thought exactly. IMO, the garish stuff hides the contestant. These costumes were all thought up my the mothers (or brothers) of these ladies when the contestants were six-year olds in tap dancing class.
Y’know, I kinda liked the Israel dress. It showcased the woman, instead of making her the mannequin for a mad designer.
