What the... Miss Universe "National Costumes"

Hey! How come Guam and Puerto Rico get their own entries? Last I heard we still owned them.

I think she’s a perogie.

Can anybody tell me where Miss Belgium’s arms are?

She looks more like the back seat of our car when I was a kid.

I think the descriptor “vajazzled” should put T-Lo in the running for a Nobel Prize - Literature.

 :o

Nothing says “class” like rhinestone-berries glued to an ass.

Ms. France, I’m waiting for her to say “The last mosquito that bit me had to check into the Betty Ford clinic.”
Ireland: The designer must have been going for the truly Celtic look. They decided to bury it in a bog for a week for authenticity.

Poor Ms. Bolivia is having a Tonya Harding moment. (The unlaced skate, that is, not the club.)

Nigeria. Ouch, ouch, ouch!

I’m not sure what do you mean by “bunchy toes”, but right now none of my translucid hose has opaque toes or a seam at the end; one of them marks the heel but it’s a matter of the way the tube is shaped, again no opaque area. Some of my mother’s hose has a seam; if she wears those with open-toed sandals, she pulls it a bit further out and folds the seam under her toes - tadaaaa, no seam! And as for light reflecting off the nails, well, yeah, yeah, it does. It won’t do that with unpedicured feet, but a decent layer of gloss (it doesn’t even need to be polish) will shine through hose.

Well, at least there’s a bit of history to her costume, even if there isn’t a bit of attractiveness to it. She was brave.

They still HAVE a Miss Universe contest?

Huh… just looked at Wikipedia, and apparently they do. But I don’t recognize the names of any of the contestants from the last 30 years, so one wonders… why enter? It’s not as if winning gives a girl any kind of boost in her show biz career.

Maybe they get to keep the costumes.:stuck_out_tongue:

I liked Kenya’s dress and Turks and Caicos.

Was Spain the BVM or Queen Isabella?

astorian: In the countries that for some reason continue to take this seriously (and this island, much to my aggravation, insists on being one) it still is a good stepping stone if she knows how to play it.

Isabella. It was the Dominican Republic that came as Our Lady of Altagracia (and yes, people complained; someone always complains).

That’s no Transformer. That’s a Borg!

Miss Ireland better stay off the NY Subway, because she is going to take up way more than one seat in that thing.

I looked through the pictures from last year - the theme seemed to be giant peacock.

Well, if being Miss Universe helps some girl get a show biz career in Venezuela, good for her.

Here in the US, Vanessa WiIlliams is probably the last Miss America that most people could name!
